It could have even been its 16th anniversary if only my first Duometre à Chronographe in platinum wasn't stolen to me in 2011. It was a rare one, with an uncommon white dial, instead of the normal grey one, made of platinum.
My first Duometre:
I really felt the miss, as it was one of my favorite watches from my collection. At the point that I made an exception, as psychologically, it was tough for me to buy a watch which was stolen.
So, it says a lot about the love I have for this watch.
Which helped a lot was that Jaeger Lecoultre had the good idea to give birth to a variation, in white gold, with a black dial. Less elegant than the platinum, it actually has a cool factor and an incredible " punch ". So, yes, these are the same watches, but treated so differently that they have a different character. The best would have been to keep the platinum and to add the white gold, truth to be told, but that's life and I cannot really complain.
My opinion is that the Duometre is the most interesting modern watch Jaeger Lecoultre ever made, Gyrotourbllon apart, and definitely the best quality / originality / price ratio. And I would sadly add that even the new one cannot compete. With its movement which lost the german silver and its case which is borrowed from the Master Grande Tradition line, it lost a bit of its authenticity, or at least identity.
It also is one of the finest modern manual winding chronograph movement, which is one of its biggest assets. When you see this, it is pure pleasure:
Another thing I really like is that this is a watch you can wear on formal or casual occasions, with an equal pleasure.
If I had to keep only one Jaeger Lecoultre, it would be this one!
Jaeger Lecoultre, you really made a great watch with this one.
Happy 8th and to many more, years and adventures!
Best,
Nicolas
