Gentlemen,
Here is a limited edition version of the Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic True Second, which is on to be unveiled.
The True Second was unveiled in September 2015, and I had the pleasure to cover this event.
For those who want to know more about the Geophysic True Second, please click on the following link:
The only thing which changes, here, is the ocean blue dial, a reminder of the Commanders Anderson and Calvert USS Nautilus and Skate submariners, who " cruised " under the North Pole, on August 4th, 1958, for the very first time.
The dial has two major changes, the color, of course, but also the crosshairs.
Here is the True Second I discovered in September 2015, as a prototype,
And now, in its definitive version:
And here is the " Blue ":
Let's remind some key points.
The case is 39, 6 mm big, 11, 7 mm high.
The movement is the most important part of the " True Second ", the Cal 770, an all new movement at that time, very pleasant to look at, and horologically interesting with its 4 wheels dedicated to the true second, plus the Gyro Lab balance wheel, borrowed to the... Master Compressor Extreme Lab One.
Now, the dial... The True Second has generated some strong discussions about its dial, to say the least.
Mainly because of the presence of a date, associated to the Geophysic name, which was and still is considered as a contradiction, to say the least, not to say a betrayal, for the Geophysic ( vintage ) fans. Without the date, it would have been fun. With the date, Jaeger Lecoultre could have changed the name for... Geomatic.
The other point was that the " True Second " was considered as a bit austere. And it is true, BUT... Its sobriety pays homage to the " intellectuality " of its movement.
Moreover, in blue, the dial is not austere anymore. It adds some cool factor which is indisputable.
This soleillé blue is really eye catching. Now I wonder if it wouldn't have been better without crosshairs. I understand that it is another nod to the vintage Geophysic, but I am very curious to see a photoshop picture without the crosshairs, just to feel how it would be.
Here are the other pictures I received.
The Geophysic True Second Limited Edition is only available online in the Jaeger Lecoultre Boutique, on December 5th, 2017.
To be complete, it is limited to 100 pieces. While the " normal " version is not limited.
Now the big question is to know if this blue version will make you change your mind on the Geophysic True Second.
What is your opinion?
Best,
Nicolas
