First of all, please allow me to call it Reverso Burgundy. Jaeger LeCoultre always had the bad habit to choose very long name for their watches...
The Reverso Burgundy is the second chapter of the Tribute Small Seconds, which was born, last year, with a blue dial.
The Reverso Burgundy has everything in common with the " Blue ", at the exception of the dial.
The first common point is the case, whose dimensions is no far from perfection: 45, 6 x 27, 4 mm big, 8, 5 mm high, carriage included, and a water resistance of 30 meters.
The second common point is the movement, the Cal 822/2, made of 108 parts, beating at 21, 600 vibrations per hour, with a power reserve of 42 hours.
The third and last common point is the calf strap, designed by Fagliano, here in dark red.
The second watch which comes to mind is the famous Reverso Red, launched in December 2011, with a hours and minutes dial ( no seconds ) and with a Grande Ultra Thin Case which is 46, 8 x 27, 4 mm big, and 7, 3 mm high.
The hue of Red is not the same between these two Reversos, as you can see on the picture below.
While the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Red is more " Red Tomato ", the Burgundy is a blend of brownish red, or reddish brown.
The Reverso Red is a summit of coolness, while the Reverso Burgundy adds some natural class, maybe also because of its smaller case and its sunburst finished dial.
Let's see some live pictures, but let me tell you that the Burgundy is like the Blue, very tough to take in picture, as the dial can easily turn into a strange deep purple tonality, under the light of a flash. It took me a lot of time to try to get some decent pictures.
I finally solved the mystery... Jaeger-Lecoultre told me that they used a special varnish for the Blue and Burgundy dials, which is neutral in the day light but whose color changes with the flash!
I told you, last year, that the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Blue was a strong love affair for me, the Burgundy is an even stronger love affair, this year.
This burgundy color gives depth, class, elegance to the Reverso. I prefer it to the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Red, too, which speaks a lot.
And to go farther, it is my favorite among the category of affordable watches this year at the SIHH. By far. One of the true stars of the Geneva Salon.
The good surprise: A relatively good price, circa 8, 000 Euros VAT included, which will allow you to save for a personal engraving on the solid case back of this watch.
Well played, Jaeger-Lecoultre. Well, I wonder if I have to thank the Manufacture, as I really want one!
Looking forward to reading your comments and thoughts,
Best.
Nicolas
