The Return of my 2 Deep Sea Alarm, Lecoultre and Jaeger Lecoultre.

Well, almost, because I have to give the US Deep Sea Alarm back to a watchmaker, as the movement broke after a small incident during our GTG...

But this time, it won't last 2 years.. At least I hope so...

Anyway, these 2 pearls are back, with a full movement service, some cosmetic improvements, such as:

- A New Old Stock plexy for both of them,

- Dials cleaned.

- The paint on the bezels removed and replaced by luminous material.

- Luminova hands on my " Europe " changed for Tritium ones.

- Tritium hands on my " US " which match with the alarm triangle.

- Cases refreshed, in a light way, to show the bevels of the lugs.

- New Old Stock Tropic straps for both of them.

I could only time my " Europe " because of the issue on my " US ", but the " Europe " is stunningly accurate, around + 2 / - 2 secs per day!

Needless to say that the enjoyment, the pleasure to see them back is extraordinary.

The beauty, the charm, the presence  these two watches  can provide is hard to put in words.

Ok, they were not in too bad shape when I got them, a long time ago, but they deserved the best treatment.

AND, by the way, we should always keep in mind that owning a Watch is a thing, keeping it in the best shape is our duty, despite the costs, the wait and so on...

Let's see each of these beauties, now.

1/ The DSA US:

Before the intervention, it was like this:

none

After, it is like this:

none

The Lawyer's Shot:

In action:

none

The black dial faded a bit in grey, it is just splendid like this.

2/ The DSA Europe:

If the US can be considered as a rare Watch, the Europe is even tougher to find. It came in production one year after, and the production of both was very short, from 1959 to 1962. A serious guess estimate is around 200 pièces for the European. While the US is more around 800 pièces.

So, owning both of them is a great pride for any collector.

This Europe has an external dial which turned into a delicious chocolate color, contrasting with the black alarm disc.

Before the intervention, with its chimney plexy and its luminova hands:

none

After, with its correct plexy, and tritium hands:

none

none

none

I have always been in the impossibility to say which one I preferred. A bit like for my two vintage Polaris, the 1965 and the 1968.

Both have their distinctive charm and personality.

I will end with a story. My first DSA US is the one I showed you. I had the possibility to get another one, which was in stunning condition, and decided to seel my first one to get the better one.

My better one:

I had it for two years, and, in January 2011, it was stolen to me.

I love it so much that I decided to break my rules and to re buy the former one, which belonged to a good friend of mine.

My friend knew what happened to me, and agreed to sell it to me, a few months after my burglary.

Needless to say that these two are true keepers in my collection.

Best,

Nicolas

These DSAs are 2 Goddesses of the sea, and now even more transformed more into impeccable appeal ! Very, very sorry to hear about the "effect" of the small incident, and can inagine, that this must be painful quite a bit, to again wait , until again needing some work to re-restore completely. These two are real marvels and fascinating to look at in tru...

Beautiful ... I'm glad to see that you were able to fix the EU hands. Now you own a pic of the four objects of desire: the two DSA and the two Polaris. Cheers, Nilo

Friends, We often talk about the complicated or the sports... But I would like to put a light on some of the core criterions of a modern wrist watch: Time, Date, Automatic, Water resistant, Shock resistant and Accuracy. This is what a big part of the watch buying customers wants. Yes, is this order, at least if you look at most of the big Manufactures and their main part of watch production each year.
