Jaeger-LeCoultre: Historical Review. Where the unusual is commonplace – revisited

Apr 12, 2016,02:24 AM

Friends,

Five years ago today, I posted a photo of this ad:

If you do a search here in the JLC forum “Where the unusual is commonplace” you will find it…

The ad is an English ad from 1958 with the header “Where the unusual is commonplace”.

Under the header is a photo of Le Sentier, Valle De Joux, Switzerland.

Featured in the ad are the following three watches to mark the 125 th Anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre: Geophysic E 168, Memovox Parking 3161 and the Memovox International 3160.

(For those of you who have been following me here know the 125 th Jubilé collection is a theme very close to my heart, but I will come back to that theme in another post…)

The Geophysic: THE GRAIL watch for many of us here…

The Memovox Parking: The Mr. Fun Guy, easy to like, hard to find in correct condition…

The Memovox International: The Myth, the Legend, the most faked and “frankened” of all JLC references ever made…

Almost everybody heard about it, many read about it, some saw photos of a correct one, but very few actually held one in their hand.

And some “lucky Bastardo’s” have two…!

wink

Last time I posted this ad, I was at two out of three…

Now, five years later… I am more at three out of three…

I got my basis covered!

smile

My problem now is that since last time posting this ad I found the same ad also in Spanish…

Exactly the same ad but in Spanish…

And we all know that people in the south part of Europe are much fonder of gold watches than people in the north part of Europe…

So by that logic I guess I am back to…

Two out of three…

If I ever find this ad in a third language I might pass on it…

To collect vintage watches is a game of detective work and patience…

Best

Blomman

Blomman, I love to read/see your historical posts. More, please. Cheers, Nilo

I knew this post would call you out, my friend! Would love to read the story of your find. In fact, I know of a forth, also steel version. So in total: 1 gold, 3 steel. We should make a trio shot next time we meet - would be historical! Best Blomman

Very cool!....

Can we get a close-up of the International version? I like that dial better than the recent release. -Dean

I prefer this kind of dial as well....

Awesome focused collection

Just nuts! I love it. I admit the E168 in stainless steel is my grail and the only watch I "must" have next. Everything else on my want list is just icing on the cake.

Nuts? Yes, definetly! :)
