And I said the above slightly in jest and as an advocate for some Omega owners who feel that way. Although obviously, it doesn't come across that way on the forum since I didn't put my usual "joking" in parenthesis in my post.
Yes, objectively looking at the Speedmaster Moonwatch on its own, it's not a bad watch for the price (which combined with your praise and Dr. No's praise) which is why I ultimately bought it. However, I can imagine some people who spent a large amount of money (in their eyes) on a Moonwatch would feel betrayed. Your analogies are definitely valid, but they're still not exactly the same because those are high level companies selling to a very external company whereas in this case Omega's name and logo are on the dial of the new watch. Kari didn't put "Voutilainen" on the Sartory Billard dial. Imagine an Omega Speedmaster customer, who bought a Speedmaster for around 5000 Swiss Francs, and let's add drama here - those were his last 5000 Swiss Francs, he'd been saving up for months! Years! Had to eat instant noodles (whatever is the current cliche). And let's say he bought this Omega yesterday. And the next day Omega announces a similar watch for 250 Swiss Francs that has an official OMEGA logo on it? He might feel awful! Hoodwinked even! I bought a nice Moonwatch. I like it. But I feel bad for those people who bought a Moonwatch, because I can imagine they'd feel betrayed and upset.
You know me, I'm all for accessible high horology. And I often specifically cover the "more reasonably priced" watch bargains I see. It's just this one really struck me as a little odd.
