Look the other direction.

 

Take a luxury brand like Coach. They used to have the cache to sell leather bags for hundreds or thousands of dollars. But then they figured they could sell way more bags at TJ Maxx for less money. Viola, they found it far harder to sell the nice bags for full price at Nordstrom. Both the cheap and the expensive bags say Coach on them.
Brand identity means a lot for a mid level mainstream brand like Omega. It is an entry level brand for many new to luxury watches. I think this move could transform the brand to an entry level point for quartz trendy watches.
