Patek Philippe

Morning everyone. I have a 5712G that i own since 2013. It is in very good shape but of course it has few scratches here and there. I want to trade it for a minute repeater ( and of course pay the difference). Do you think i ahould send it to service and ... 

The polishing of a 5712 is extremely, extremely complex. I have seen it done at Pateks service department. While they do the best possible job, imo, the result shows a repolished watch with softer lines than a new piece. As a buyer os second hand watches,...

I think Watch collectors prefer to get a worn watch in an unpolished state, because it‘s still got full material and sharp edges. Even if they want to have it polished, they‘d usually rather buy it in an unpolished state to see the defects it‘s got and th... 

I sent my 5176 for a polish to Patek and they ruined the case and returned it to me. After a lot of emails/calls they eventually agreed to replace the case. I learnt my lesson; don't listen to the people that say PP sends it back to you in a brand new con... 

Mind you, these technicians are highly skilled. Their ONLY job is to polish watches. Still, it is done “Free hand” at The Patek service department. No jig or tools to help precision. - and it’s shows in the end. You will have no doubt.

If this was decades ago, i'd say ask for a light polish and for them to be careful around the case markings. Alas, times have changed and so do not allow PP to polish the case. There are stories about... and I see someone already chimed in with their situ... 

But good job using advantage of the market to trade up! 👍

Spoke to few dealers on minute repaters… this will take time… not easy to get… but will keep trying.
