Q3 vs Q3 43

Dear all,

Have been pondering buying a one “nice” camera for a while. Similarly to consolidating the watch collection, I look at my photo bag and wonder if I should try to go to a smaller setup. And I hope (believe?) that maybe you could help me see more clear.

I started with Canon EoS decades ago, then added a Fuji X100 when they first came out, moved to Fujifilm Xt3 with a bunch of primes and one high quality zoom… and found that nowadays the bulkiness was hindering my taking pictures.

So while I had started to try to simplify with a X100, I’m meanwhile now with Fujifilm setup that is smaller than my original Canon … but still bulky to lug.

So I have been wondering whether if it would make sense to go to Leica Q3 or Q3 43?

I believe that if I go for one single caméra, I would prefer to have something that lasts, isnt obsolète tomorrow and if a certain quality. While I honestly don’t always understand when people speak about the IQ of a specific lenses versus another one (but ready to learn 😀), I believe that there is good versus better quality and the pleasure one derives from interacting with the camera is also something.

That led me so far to maybe the Leica Q (good quality, pleasurable to use, good haptic). Feel free to comment if you disagree or if I missed something.

Now the next question is which one: looking at the pictures I currently take with my iPhone (which I use instead of the fujifilm rig), I take mainly pictures when I travel, plainly and friends, watches and for instance good when it is as nicely prepared as it tastes (Japan was great for that).

Hence the questions between Q3 and Q3 43: I understand that I can crop but the perspective isnt the same. Since there isn’t any Q 35, what do you think could be better for me?

I look forward to all your comments and ideas or objections?

Many thanks in advance,
Jerome
