Photography

Dear all, Have been pondering buying a one “nice” camera for a while. Similarly to consolidating the watch collection, I look at my photo bag and wonder if I should try to go to a smaller setup. And I hope (believe?) that maybe you could help me see more ...  

The xf27 is my go-to lens on the x-t1 when I want to travel light, although I often find it a bit too narrow indoors. I've taped the brand and model name on my t1 but while Tokyo is fine I wouldnt want to have to worry about attracting the wrong type of p... 

Thanks for the reply. Indeed the question of losing the wide angle is the only thing that is bothering me most in this dilemma… Also good point about taping the mark is a good one. Especially when traveling to Paris it might be a good practice. Not sure i... 

First of all, I have now seen the older thread where you mentioned Q3, super helpful! I guess the question I’m wondering is the following: Q3-28 allows to go up to 50 possibly 75 with cropping, but with the perspective/parallax of 28. Is that a big deal a... 

For a one and done, it would come down to focal length preference as both Q3 offers the 28 and the 43. If you’re a 35mm shooter, the 28mm Q3 is actually the safer bet. You can crop into a 35mm field of view and still have 39MP of detail. If you go with th... 

My main “concern” (if mi may call it so) is how different is the perspective/look of pictures cropped from say 28 to 43 versus taken directly into 43? Is that a major concern or something that is not really visible?

But if you have shot with something like a 28mm elmarit lens, it could be a bit exaggerated especially if you shoot up or down at an angle. I find it even more exaggerated compared to a 21mm lens. So a cropped version would sort of carry over those charac... 

As you formulated not funhouse mirror but rather “characteristics” which stay when cropped - especially in unfortunate setups like done at an angle or close proximity portrait I guess ?

If you take that pic with a 28, the distortion would be similar to that one giving off a wider feel. If taken with a 43, it would probably be less. For the rest of the photographs, it seems that a 43 would be more apt although it would mean taking 2x step... 

Having both would be the ideal (from a photographic perspective) but would also defeat the purpose of consolidation and of one camera + one lens !🤯

Your style is street. and I think a Q would cause alot of intentionality in terms of carrying kit. The Ricoh GR IV gets raves from folks I know who use it. If it were me, I'd get as small as possible AND get a full frame to boot

After some light research, i went with the standard Q3. Some folks suggested it might be a better option if also want to do occasional watch macros. I just got it a week ago - preowned from one of the US Leica stores- in Miami. Staff there been great.
