New diver in the house!

Like many people my first foray into mechanical watches came courtesy of Seiko's old but faithful and now discontinued SKX. While over the years I have been fortunate to be in a position to purchase more expensive watches, Seiko always had a special place in my heart. I still pester when a quick day-date change is not available, for example! I wasn't really looking but I had the opportunity to acquire a Gold Tuna at a very attractive price and the temptation was too stong to resist:

Released in 2018 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 7549-7009, this model is also known as the 1978 Gold Tuna. The 7549-7009 is often quoted as the first professional quartz dive watch and the original model was famously sported by Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only. This is one of those situations where quartz actually makes historical sense. The back of the monobloc case - there is no caseback so to speak - is pure business:

With its funky design, the Tuna is in my opinion right up there with watches like the Ploprof and other serious dive watches from a time when manufacturers would compete for oceanic exploration. One last shot for the road next to another less serious but nonetheless very charming diver:
