Vacheron Constantin

This is true.

All fashion goes in cycles and value retention follows suit.

There was a time not too long ago when no one wanted watches designed in the 1970s. They were tacky, until they were 'hot' again.  Daytonas didn't sell well...then decades later they became 'hot'. PP discontinues the Nautilus because of disappointing sales, but it's 'hot' when they bring it back and so they discontinue it again.

I'm at the point in my life (and in this hobby long enough) that I don't think about value retention in terms of aftermarket prices. I have a habit of moving watches to others when the aftermarket price seems to become the objective of owning the watch. Everyone has their motives for collecting. Overly focusing on value retention, from a monetary perspective, kills the interest in the hobby for me so I refocus my collection when I think that's happening.
