So after yesterday's reveal of my 1st incoming of 2022 (Patek 5650G which you can see in the Patek sub forum), I wanted to save what I think is an over the top piece.
This is the back story.
I've always loved and wanted a Romain Gauthier Logical One, ever since I saw it win a GPHG award. I am fascinated with the fusΓ©e and chain mechanism and how it implements constant force. One of the reasons I purchased a Richard Lange Pour le Merite was due to the fusΓ©e and chain. Sadly, you can only view it from the case back.
The Logical One is the best implementation of this mechanism, IMHO. I don't need to get into details as there are far better sources on YouTube, various Watch channels, etc...that explain it far better than I can. All I can say is that it is a PHENOMENAL piece and seeing the snail and chain from the dial side is a joy for the eyes !!
At 43mm, I was always reluctant due to the size but it wears surprisingly well, even on my 16.5cm wrist. Maybe it is the lug design which really is tapered downward. It also helps to have a BEEFY but supple strap to balance out the weight and size. For all you strap nuts like me, don't worry, several bespoke straps were already ordered π€£π€£. For now and FYI, I have it on a blue jean color special tanning nubuck alligator strap with white stitching which seems to match Ok for now π
Now for the good part.
This particular piece was really serendipitous. If I was going to ever get a Logical One, it would ONLY be in white metal with a gold / gilt finish to the movement plates as I find that contrast of color to be taste.
On top of that, thus particular piece is a little more special. ANITA PORCHET was commissioned to do several custom enamel dials for a small series of Logical One models. I believe it was 2 dials in a series of 6 colors. A total of ONLY 12 of these dials were ever made by Anita in (red, green, brown, bronze, purple, and blue). The crazy thing is that the other blue dial was a unique piece commissioned by a collector with the movement bridges engraved in a Byzantine motif. So by default, this one being the ONLY other blue dial in this configuration is also a unique piece even though it was not meant to be and was supposed to be in a pair like the other colors ππππ.
So when this piece was presented to me in EXACTLY the configuration I wanted but with this special provenance and having a dial done my Anita, how could I refuse? It really was a NO Brainer.
It is SO tough to capture the true color of the dial in photos as it seems to change from a medium blue navy to a light almost baby blue tone due to lighting. All I can say is it is a STUNNER in every sense of the word and I am so happy I finally made the leap after all these years of reflection π€·ββοΈπ¬π€¦
So I am pleased to welcome this special Logical One into my humble collection.
