what if one has to leave the Holy Trinity and one brand can take that spot ...

 By: Bruno.M1 : March 30th, 2024-11:47

to make it easy, put your answer in the TITLE smile
And if you want to explain your choice put it in the message

So  ... We have Audemars Piguet - Patek Philippe - Vacheron Constantin and ONE needs to LEAVE
Now the other hand one brand can replace the one that leaves.

Maybe let's have a few rules for the new entry

1- has to be a brand with a long history, so NO new and small independents as much as I like them
2- ofcourse high end finishing (no Rolex Omega, Cartier, Breitling, ...)
3- a lot of complications should be available
4- Should be widely available so brands that make at least a few 5000 - 10000 watches per year

OUT - Audemars, IN - Breguet

 By: Bruno.M1 : March 30th, 2024-11:51
I would let go the Royal Oak company
And exactly for that reason ... If the RO would not exist the brand itself would probably be close to nothing

Can't. Apparently, based on the arbitrary rules, the brand has to be Swiss.

Out Audemars

 By: sham1 : March 30th, 2024-12:18
In A. Lange & Sohne - the consistently high quality across the entire range make this brand a natural choice.  I don't even like them as I prefer Moritz Grossmann and Lang & Heyne but these are excluded by your rules.

OUT - Audemars Piguet

 By: vitalsigns : March 30th, 2024-12:24
IN - probably Lange, but a photo finish in the race with Breguet.

I think AP will undoubtedly be the supermajority OUT brand.

Out AP, and Breguet in. Lange a hard pass…

OUT: AP - IN: AL&S

 By: fmc000 : March 30th, 2024-12:43
I really despise AL&S behaviour WRT "buying history" and that kind of nonsense but I can't find another brand that can satisfy the OP's requests. Maybe Breguet can be the other choice but their style is just not for me.

OUT AP - IN Grand Seiko (Masterpiece collection level)

 By: agyzace : March 30th, 2024-12:44
One simply cannot find that level of quality anywhere else apart maybe from the likes of Voutilainen, Smith, Dufour and Rexhepi.

I would out either VC or AP, and would IN Lange for sure!

I'd say VC and AP are both out and Breguet and Lange are both in.

Patek, Breguet, Lange is a better 'trinity' in my book than Patek, Vacheron, AP.

OUT: Audemars Piguet In: A. Lange & Söhne

 By: Dimardi : March 30th, 2024-13:18
It seems this is becoming the consensus choice, with Breguet being mentioned often too.  The Grand Seiko suggestion is interesting and certainly worth considering too.  My choice for ALS is based on their commitment to their high levels of finishing of their watches and also their continuous desire to innovate and take the hard road (new movements for new models when an one on the shelf would probably work).  The Datograph in 1999 put the Trinity on notice when ALS developed their own Chrono movement in-house...and continued building on it from there.  I am biased (I own 2 ALS), but they seem to fit the criteria quite well.

Audemars Piguet (OUT) & Breguet (IN)

The Royal Oak is overplayed and the La Traditions are lovely.

With these extra rules regarding production numbers, I'd take noone out and put noone in.

out AP - in Lange

 By: mblum3 : March 30th, 2024-13:58
As I was reading the responses, I can see
Lange, Breguet and Grand Seiko all being
good choices.  The fact that the level of finish
is equally good across the board in Lange is
admirable.  You pay for complexity.  The Seiko
Micro Artist Studio would be very worthy of a spot
as well.

Oops.

Didn't read the rules.  So the micro artist
studio is out due to very small production.
Lange then.

OUT: Patek. IN: Longines

Trying my best to be as blasphemous as calling any watch company part of the "Holy Trinity", especially during this week.

 By: enjoythemusic : March 30th, 2024-15:10
Still waiting for how they were chosen, and who chose them to begin with? Answer this please. Simply stated, "What is the true criteria?" If it is sales, then Rolec, Cartier and Omega are the Holy Trinity for 2024 smile

VC and ALS, perhaps, the others can go. But we know there's far better available.

AP Should to go

 By: ANDLIST : March 30th, 2024-19:23
AP is doing cheesy collaborations with musicians, if you can call them that.  I like the Star Wheel but that’s basically it.  Patek is quality but also smart supply/demand and Vacheron has history and the most interesting pieces of the last 5 years.  I have no idea who to replace them with.

I am in the minority here but I think AP is deserving of its place in the trinity
