Horological Meandering

I saw several very exciting examples, these last months.

Among them, this Tissot, which I believe to house a Lemania 15 TL.

Big case ( 38 mm ), superb dial, and excellent movement. What else can you ask?







A screw in case back, maybe? Or better, an officer case back, to be able to admire the movement?



Mushroom pushers???

Well, these olive pushers are very appealing, to me.

I couldn't open the case, back, but here is a photo of a Cal 15 TL, for you to see it:



This is a world I am rediscovering with great delight, I have to say...

I regret that Tissot doesn't make such great watches, anymore.

But this is not the only brand in this case....

From time to time, I will post some great vintage Chronographs, by the way. For me to contaminate you on such beauties!

That's a beautiful watch, no doubt. Love everything about it, size, case, pushers, movement, and the VERY nice colorful dial.

... I´m already contaminated by the "chrono malady" since some time ago!

I love old chronos, and lacking the funds to start a good sub collection of high end brands examples, I begun some years ago to gather a few nice less known brands which sported fantastic dials at a more affordable prices.

During the fishing, some good brands examples were caught in the net anyway, and in the whole, the investment never reached the price of just one Patek indeed!

Sooo!... I will be eagerly  looking forward to view some of the chronos you will be showing us!

Your first one of this series, this Tissot, is really an awesome watch, with a superb dial to die for. And the photos with the blue backgrown are great!

I already have some, as you know.

But this theme is luch wider than Vintage Subs!

So, I don't want to dive too deep in these troubled waters, I just want to focus on let's say 8 to 10 of  them.

The movement will be important, as well as the dialo and the case.

The case: Minimum 37 mmn except if I fall on a superb Monopusher ( in this case 35, not less )

The movement should be a noble one, I already havze a lot of Valjoux 72, 22, 7733 and so on.

The dial should immediately speak to me.

I will only make an exception about hte movement for a Breguet Type XX, if I find a superb one. If not, I pass.

Yes. Vintage Chronos have a unique charm. 

U.G is a brand to consider, of course, and I am studying it.... Then I will decide which one I will hunt.

Along with some 1940s half dollar coins...

I sometimes wonder about who first bought it, and the chain of caretakers this watch has had up until now. 


Those three minute marks are perfect for grilling a nice thick steak.  I think there was some other reason for them, though

THe only problem with Zenith is that the manual movement Chrono is necessarily outsourced....Bjut there are some cool ones, as the one I missed.

Tell me, did Zenith use some Excelsior Park movements for their chronos?

I haven't opened up the watch, but here is a movement picture from the previous owner:

After looking at my pictures of this watch, had to wind it up and put it one the wrist this morning.  For me, the movement maker is not the most important thing - rather, the joy is in the age of the watch, the nice appearance of the dial and case, and the smooth operation of the chrono mechanism.

Bought for a song about 10 years ago.  I think the price reflected the low level of respect to which the brand had sunk.

Case back.

The case of yours is close to the one I posted.

He has another one I will try to take in picture,which seems to belong to a later production.

It is a VERY nice Tissot Chronograph wearing many details you mentioned that make these older chronographs highly appealing without to speak about its superb condition
These are very rewarding to own and wear combining strong vintage flavors based on case and dial layouts and outstanding in-house calibers
