“Catch me if you can,” where they were great together.  Who’s better?  They both have impressive range from comedy to drama, but Hanks has demonstrated much wider range throughout his career.  He is an icon.

Always liked cast away

As a matter of fact watched it recently and enjoyed it again, that being said Leo in wolf of wall street really killed it, Inception or The departed ain't bad either!

I feel like Leo can have an intensity that Tom doesn't have - Leo has definitively surprised me in my seat while Tom is more predictable. Could this be correct?

Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, Sully, Saving Private Ryan, Green Mile...

Oddly enough, I also re-watched Cast Away about 3 months ago.  I had not seen it in 20 years.  It's excellent, albeit sad.

100% :)

What’s this got to do with materialistic items 99.9% the rest of the world population can’t afford to own?

I think the end of the movie is inspiring… let her go and you can spread your wings.

With a caveat - Leo has managed to bring a burning intensity to his roles which has been unearthed by Martin Scorsese as his director in a long list of movies that they did together - starting with Gangs of New York , through The Aviator, The Departed ( itself a remake of an excellent Hong Kong Film called Infernal Affairs , do watch the original ) , onto Shutter Island , Wolf of Wall Street and while I haven’t seen it yet , am hearing one of their best yet in Killers of the Flower Moon  . So as much credit to the always amazing Scorsese as Leo !

Tom Hanks is of course amazing and has wonderful range and versatility with many great movies  ( also  older , I remember one of his earliest  “ Big “ from the 80s when Leo must have still been a baby 🙂, but can’t think of a similar collaboration with a particular seminal director in his case that has extracted something beyond special  ( maybe I’m wrong ! )

Not a fan of either Hanks or DiCaprio but

I would not want to miss the chance to endorse Infernal Affairs, parts 1 and 2. Departed is merely an okay remake.
Cheers
Marc

two best of different side of coin.

Why does one have to be "better" than the other. They're different people with different roles they've played.

Can we not just enjoy them for what they do?

To me....

it isn't a comparison at all. DiCaprio has always been a thoroughly mediocre actor in my eyes, he's been in a few good films (i.e. The Departed, Catch Me If You Can), but those films would have been equally good if not even better with someone else in his place.... The one really good film where he did perform particularly well in my opinion is Blood Diamond. An 'oddity' of sorts in his filmography replete with collaborations with Scorsese whom I also think of as a long overblown director. He hasn't done anything truly impressive since Taxi Driver as far as I'm concerned. Hanks , despite having some 'duds' in his long career has also had some of the most iconic roles/films ever put to screen. Hanks, to his credit, recently stated this was very much the case in his own opinion as well - that there were a few movies he was fortunate to have done which truly stood the test of time and became globally iconic works of art. Now, I also have to mention here that my bias is further intensified due to learning for a fact (from a direct eyewitness) that DiCaprio is a despicable human being who has raped women on multiple occasions, but that's a far more substantial topic for some other time and venue.... I can still manage to separate his filmmaking contributions from his unforgivable individual depravities.... Cheers, Filip

Hanks.

But that’s not to say DiCaprio isn’t talented. In my view they are very different. It’s like trying to compare Ferrari versus Porsche. Or Lange versus Patek. We appreciate them for different reasons.

Gatsby

I read all the comments...

Thank you everyone for your responses both Leo vs Tom and also their movies.. Everyone responses and perspectives are interesting to me.. So sad.. The lady still rushed out to tell Tom Hanks that he is the true love of her life.. But they didn't stay together.. Sometimes life really have no choice..
