Further to my Sunday's coffee escapade, without further a due, first impressions on a Rolex D-blue DEEPSEA attached.

- Weight and Size - Weighting in a very hefty 220g (almost exactly half a pound!) this is a super heavy weight category; for me at least. By far the heaviest watch I have ever owned.

(Now I know what guys wearing large platinum watches feel like). This is what you call a real wrist presence I guess. After two days I do not mind the weight, the watch constantly reminds you it is where it is supposed to be - on your wrist that is.

- Dial - Lets be honest here, the reason, the only reason I have purchased this watch was its dial. The dial is ...mesmerizing! It makes the whole watch. It is truly unbelievable, absolutely fascinating, it makes you look at it at any given opportunity. You can easily stare at it for 15 min and it is not enough. You just want to look at it again and again. I have looked at it under a magnifying glass and there is no clear cut between blue and black, they just merge into each other flawlessly and unnoticeably. Spectacular!

The old saying is still valid today - Make a dial, sell the watch!

I have passed by a regular Deepsea  more than hundreds of times, never even thinking of acquiring one. Wow, what a power of a dial!

- Water Proofness -  Lets be honest again, I am not a pro diver, this watch will never be any close to 4K underwater, unless I will have dropped it from a cruise ship into the Pacific.

The deepest it will go is a few feet at some swimming pool in Vegas. That said, I do appreciate all the engineering necessary to make it water proof to 4K.

Conclusion -  I am astonished, but the watch is fully wearable, I do not mind its size or weight at all.  That comes from a guy that  considers  a 40mm watch BIG.

- Glass - The glass is REFLECTIVE, very difficult to take pictures as the glass reflects light back. Maybe it has got something to do with its thickness  - an unbelievable 5,5 mm.(This is more than double your regular window glass panel). Stunning again!

Envy you and those who have meatier wrists.

I would not hesitate to try one if you could.
I would not consider my wrist particularly large, quite to the contrary medium sized at best. Yet the watch sits on my wrist just perfectly fine.
The biggest watch I have worn until now was a 40mm GMT.
I know it sounds strange, but I think that the watch wears smaller than it actually is.
Thickness is another issue - it is really, really thick - difficult to wear with a dress shirt.

I've owned the 116600 sea-Dweller, and thickness is an issue. It felt nice at first, but after a few hours of activity, the thickness would make me feel a little bit uncomfortable. The DEEPSEA is even thicker and larger, so I'm afraid that it's probably out of my range.

I think that after a while I will only be wearing this watch summer time or on a winter vacations in a sunny place.

On a long run the thickness may proof to be too much, and seasonal wear will be the answer.

I've measured it to approximately 18mm, that is HUGE!
I would have never thought I would like a huge watch like that - but I do!
Sure it can not be worn with a suit, but it will be my #1 watch for the summer.
Can't wait for summer already, maybe the global warming would make my summer longer? Hopefully!

There is one issue though I am wondering about.  How will this dial "perform" over the decades.

Will it always stay the same or will it turn to entirely black or blue dial?  Since there is no clear cut from black to blue, and the colours just morph into each other who knows what is going to happen with time. Maybe one colour will win the war and take the whole dial? I would much prefer if that happens that my dial turns to blue.

BTW, the technology to manufacture this type of dial must be fascinating, the effect is truly mesmerizing!

Not that it does not look good on you! Saw the "standard" model a few times and it looked good on people. This Cameron edition adds a bit more spice to it with the dial. Enjoy your new purchase. Best Moritz

You are absolutely right, I have passed by the regular model literally hundreds of times without a thought even crossing my mind to buy it.
What have crossed my mind was - who would wear such a huge watch? - .......and the answer now is ....me!
The DIAL enchanted me, I was sold on it the first time I saw it about a year ago and the rest is history.

I find the bracelet too narrow for me!

I have never replaced a bracelet for a strap on any of my watches yet.
As I will only be wearing this watch Summer time and on vacations in Tropics what do you think about a strap performing in the water conditions. Would it last long? Are they suitable for swimming?

Although I appreciate the technology that has gone into this model and I love the way it looks I'll have to check again the thickness to see if I can get away with it.
The other piece I'm after is the 4000 (and the gold Yacht Master..!) but this one with the dial is definately worth another second look.

The watch is thick, no other way to describe it. My wrist is medium sized at best, but think I have pulled it though. As crazy as it sounds I think the watch wears smaller than it really is!!
I have tried on a Sea Dweller 4000 but it did not lured me in. A friend of my has a YG Yachtmaster II and two tone Yachtmaster II and I love them both.
But nothing compares to the D-Blue dial!!
I will post a full review on it in Spring 2016.

It is so impressive and so fantastically engineered. And it looks so great - IMHO even with a suit.

Weight and size don't bother me. The only thing that always let me hesitate in the last moment before pulling the trigger is that the case is just put on a standard bracelet which I feel is a bit too small for this monument of a watch.

What do you think? What's your "wearing experience" with this bracelet?

As I have stated many times I have bought the watch for the dial. Since I have it though I am reading a lot about diving watches and a Sea Dweller in particular. What a fantastic watch! The engineering is state of the art technology. Just stunning.
My wrist is medium sized so I do not mind the bracelet at all, I have noticed some guys putting their SDs on a rubber strap - maybe the option for you.
So far I just love the watch, actually more and more with every day that goes by. Certainly more than on the day of the purchase!
And also I do now appreciate the WHOLE watch, not t5he dial only.

I'm interested to hear how your other watches feel after you wear this monster for some time? Did you have any watches that are close to this in size? What is the stander size of your other watches?They say once you go big you don't go back because it really makes your other watches seem small.

The most unbelievable thing just actually has happened - I just love this watch and its size!
As I have stated before, I am a medium size, classic, pure looks kind of a watch guy. Never, ever I was considering a diving watch, certainly not in this size.
All I was buying a week ago (or so) was a dial. It all has changed in this last few days! I will cover that in my full review in the spring, but just to touch that now - I am learning a lot about diving watches and their engineering.
About the size again - In Rolex watches I own a Batman, which until recently I thought I would never take off of my wrist, a SS Daytona and an Air King. Nothing close in size to Deep Sea and nothing close to its wait at all.
There must be something about not going back to smaller watches after you have a big one. They most certainly wear much smaller now. But also as I have said before the Deep Sea wears smaller than it really is!!
P.S. The Daytona wears really small now - mine is a black dial what already makes the watch smaller. The Air King looks just tiny now.
The Deep Sea has changed my watch world totally, and just turned it up side down.
From a watch bought just for its dial to a totally new experience - and I have to say that, I love it!
