"Hey, I inherited this watch, is it real?" I grimaced, took the watch, rubbed it carefully on my shirt :-) and said, "I dunno"

In this case it was a friend asking. He handed the watch to me and went on his way. At least he didn't ask how much it was worth.

Now I'm no Bill or Jocke so I can't glance at one of these babies and instantly decipher it. The reference number is 16610 and the serial number starts F488 _ _ _.

BTW - I WAS KIDDING about the shirt wiping bit.

Dirt commensurate with being worn by an old guy who is now at rest. His other watch was a Seiko which I also have here for a little spa treatment.

The bracelet is now in my ultrasound machine getting a good cleaning.

Interesting clasp.

Two days wearing and the 3135 is running 5 seconds fast. I sniffed the air escaping out of the case and I smelled a hint of Alpine Meadow mixed with machine oil.

Rolex experts - what do you say? Should I keep it for a few months just to confirm its good running performance? I have to do some work on the Seiko either way ...

I could help you my friend but I'm less than worthless in regard to watch authentication.

It’s from around 2004.

It’s very nice. Enjoy it.

Thanks for your input

It is now cleaned and back together, and feeling very nice on my wrist. I haven't worn MY Rolex Datejust for some time, but in any case it's a different feel than this one.
My previous models were Oysterquartz, a couple Datejusts, a Turn o Graph, and a Daytona.

I'd hang on to it for a couple of years just to make sure you've verified its authenticity...

You can never be too careful in cases like this!

That’s a winner !

Looks all correct...

This looks right to me. I had this watch from this time period….

….and it looks right.  if it’s a fake it’s amazingly detailed.

I’m confused. Is this now your watch? Not your friend who inherited it?

The story moved too quickly for me.

No, it's not my watch - I am just "cleaning & exercising it" for awhile to make sure it's running well

The great thing about working on watches is the chance to see and touch and wear all sorts of things; the bad thing is you usually have to give them back. And the ones you DON'T give back generally aren't worth keeping.

WANT SOME but had to give back

DON'T WANT, BUT STUCK WITH

Aha now I get it! Thanks!
