A 2-watch collection from Patek Philippe : all periods, budget $1m

Imagine that you could choose a 2-watch collection from Patek Philippe (i am pushing this lower and lower every time!). The only limitation is that there needs to be some financial limitation on what you can choose as 2499s need to come off the table. So, arbitrarily lets set a range of $0.5m-1m as the kitty to go shopping.

For me, I need a 2-watch collection to cover as many of my uses for watches as possible. Namely, swimming, hiking, casual, formal, business, travel etc etc. Covering ALL bases with just two watches is a difficult task for collectors. I know some who get jittery even when you ask them to narrow it down to 20! But it has to be JUST two. No excuses about this or that...JUST two.

For me, I take the 3448 and 5650. The latter covers so many bases. It is a casual watch that can be used in virtually all casual situations. Yet, at the same time, the heritage of the watch and its fascinating dial would never leave me bored no matter how long I wore it. The second watch I would go for would be the 3448. For me, its a watch I could stare at indefinitely. Wearable in any formal/business situation and again one that I would never get bored with.

How would you make your decision?

What would you go for?

none

For me this is quite simple my two would be my ever faithful 7200R London Edition and the holy grail 5531R. And if I have gone over budget Joe, I would forego the 5531R for one of the ten 5029R out there My beloved 7200R London Edition How not to go nuts over the 5531R?!! A rare 502...

My swimming trunks Joe!! :-) I would not wear a watch to swim (and I do swim twice a week) or when I play squash (4 times a week) probably as I try my best to keep my watches in as good condition as possible while wearing them! The fact that I am a partial to leather strap watches de...

There are some complications which make watch aficionados dream: The Minute Repeater is certainly one of them, a several axis tourbillon, perhaps, a sophisticated perpetual calendar, an Equation of Time, an astronomical watch, and, last but not least, the Split-Seconds Chronograph. I have a fully intact souvenir of one of my horological discussions with a gentleman in charge of the product development for Jaeger Lecoultre, some ten years ago and he taught me that one of the most " complicated complication ... .
