Nicolas, known as 'amanico' on WatchProSite, presents a captivating look at the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph in white gold. While acknowledging the Datograph's iconic status, Nicolas makes a compelling case for the 1815 Chronograph as a horological masterpiece in its own right. His detailed photography and initial impressions set the stage for a deeper appreciation of this exquisite manual-wind chronograph.

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
the depth elevates the movement and equally well finished for a non-artisanally produced time-piece... great pics Nico. Best, mahesh.,
... the datograph design is iconic and recognizable from across the room. It definitely casts a shadow over the 1815, especially based purely on pics online. At the boutique in person though I found myself drawn to the silver/white dial 1815 and staring at it much longer than the datograph. More subtle, the recessed center adds a nice touch you can only see up close and the dial's metallic finish gives it a glow totally opposite to the matte black dato. The subtlety of the silver dial 1815 feels
Convinced guy... Thanks for your input, Fastwong. Best, Nicolas
But you two are probably discussing the diameter, not the thickness. Thanks for showing that picture. I think there are a couple people who would prefer the blue-dialed boutique 1815, that is very similar.
But....I don’t prefer 36hrs power reserve. I still like this one 😬
So maybe a couple mils all around? Not worlds different but definitely felt chunkier. I've never tried an original sized Datograph but I imagine those are a lot closer to the 1815. I liked the larger size of the datograph up down but the blue on silver of the 1815 boutique edition was soooooo nice.....
