A. Lange & Söhne's 'Lumen' series offers a unique take on watch illumination, and Nicolas (amanico) delves into the Grande Lange One Moon Phase Lumen (2016) with a discerning eye. He explores its romantic appeal, particularly highlighting the luminous moon phase, while also posing a thought-provoking question about the design choice of a luminous date. This piece invites collectors to consider the aesthetic and functional implications of such a distinctive luminous treatment on a classic dress watch.

I have never seen these lumen models in the flesh. I was rather impressed by the Lange 1 Grande MoonPhase, was seriously on my grail list but I put something before it which I will show you soon enough, silly COVID put my plans back a couple of months. As I see the Lange 1 as a dress watch, I may have some reservations of the "sportiness" of the lume focus. But I don't know, never seen it live, may love it, may sell my soul for it. Would love a test model!!!!
The Lumen concept works for me best with the more technical Datograph. I am of course biased owning the PT version of the Grand Lange 1 moonphase ….
Love the effect of numerals all over the dial
