I tried these two a few days ago and really loving them.

The Lange 1 looked a hair small initially, but really loved it on my wrist. I kind of similar feeling as with the Patek 5110.

I also tried a Grand Lange 1 moonphase on but seemed a bit too large and less charming on my wrist. It is 41mm vs the 38.5 of the classic one.

According to the catalog, the "basic" Grand 1 117.028 is announced as 41, whilst on the Lange website says 40.5. Curious to know which is correct. I hope 40.5, and looking forward to try one on soon.

Cheers!

About the A. Lange and Söhne Emil Lange Ref. 1815

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.

This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.

The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.

Size is right and movement is stunning. So these are currently available at your AD since it’s their inventory and ready for purchase? There’s been quite a stir and a few rounds of controversial discussions that such complication pieces will become application only but I guess it doesn’t apply if the piece is already with AD. I would go for 1815 Chrono vs Lange 1 if it’s available…but it’s just me. Happy deciding.

I think that L1 looks stellar on your wrist. I thought it may be a bit small as well, but it wears perfectly on my 7.5 inch wrist.

Between the 2 I will pick 1815 chrono. For Lange 1s I prefer the other versions not the white gold one which has lume hands which I feel don't fit Lange 1's dial very well. Cheers Robin

The Lange 1 comes in a multitude of colorways and sizes — is this your favorite combo size and color? It’s is an emblem of the brand!

My aging eyes read the time easier, it’s arguably the best functioning flyback chronograph, and that backside view is all Datograph without the added heft.
