Pingtsai announces the winner of the Bulgari contest, 'Heartbreaker,' whose entry eloquently captures Bulgari's multifaceted identity as a luxury brand. The post delves into Bulgari's strategic integration of Daniel Roth and Gérald Genta, highlighting its evolution into a serious haute horlogerie leader while maintaining a broad appeal across luxury categories.

Congratulations Heartbreaker! He wrote:

“Bulgari is a world of excellence, where dreams come true. I mean that every proposal by Bulgari, from simple perfumes to princely jewels, from iconic leathers to up-to-date accessories, from charming hotels to masterpiece timepieces, strongly want to speak to women and men, telling them marvelous stories that everyone can live in their own life. For me, Bulgari is indeed a luxury brand that knows how to closely tickle a very large type of end-users, presenting them a truly new experience.

That's what I like in general about Bulgari.

But I also want to talk about the thing I admire the most about Bulgari as a high-end watchmaker.

In Baselworld 2010, Bulgari has celebrated a bold and incredible move: the complete incorporation of the Manufactures Daniel Roth and Gérald Genta under the BVLGARI name. IMHO, from that day, having put three extraordinary names under the same roof - without losing not even a single grain of each one personality - have caused a serious and dramatic acknowledgement of Bulgari as a Haute-Horlogerie Leader. I think that the main strength point of Bulgari timepieces precisely is having so many collections in the same catalogue. Thank you, Bulgari!”

Thank You to All the Wonderful Entries!

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest and submitted such thought-provoking, illuminating and heart-felt answers. My goal in holding the contest was to bring forth authentic sentiments felt by the public regarding Bulgari – as a watchmaker, a designer and a commercial entity. I believe that to see them as merely any of those things singularly is completely limiting and devoid of true essence which makes them great which must be grasped on a larger scale.

One of the things that I admire about Bulgari is just how smart the company is. Sure there are genius watchmakers in the world who make extraordinary timepieces but the names that are smart are the ones that understand the demands and the compromises that longevity must afford. I like Bulgari because they know the importance of their bread and butter, utilize it effectively and don’t miss opportunities to throw in the sweet jam from time to time, just to keep it interesting and the creative juices flowing.

Picking the Winner

It was incredibly difficult to pick a winning entry as there were so many good answers. But I tried to find one that expressed what I saw in Bulgari as a whole, one that captured the philosophy, the essence and understanding of the brand.

In the first part of Heartbreaker’s answer he taps into something I have always known about Bulgari and that is evident in many of their products which is how they are ‘masters at understanding the masses.’ To be a truly successful company in the world today requires accuracy in pinpointing this foresight.

The second part of his answer pays tribute to Bulgari’s more specialized watchmaking dedication and how they have preserved the essence of these integrated brands yet do it in such a way as to ensure their survival. That by far, is not an easy thing to do.

Honorable Mention - small-luxury-world for his very genuine and heart-felt response for Bulgari here .

Congratulations Heartbreaker and small-luxury-world! Thank you for your great answers!

And so I encourage the watch community to look a little deeper, or shall I say broaden your gaze, to encompass every aspect of Bulgari’s character, brand and history. The richness, warmth and brazen confidence you’ll find may have you in realization that there is so much more to it than a simple name on a dial.

Thank You All Again For Your Time, Thoughts and Participation!

The winning answer really captured all the essentials that make Bvlgari. What it boils down to is that Bvlgari is the very essence of luxury, quality, craftsmanship, and decadence done the Italian way. A good exercise for all, but would suggest for next time, we do without the incentive. Dean

Thank you Ping for your very kind words and thank you Bulgari for... the inspiration!!! I've written that article just in one go, because I'm familiar with Bulgari since I was only a little child (well, like every Italian do, I guess...), as well as I know and appreciate Gérald Genta and Daniel Roth since the very early days of my passion for watches. As a watch-lover, I sincerely wish that Bulgari could grow, preserving the highly respectable consistency shown during last years. My congratulati
