Luis6 shares his journey to acquiring the Cartier Santos 100, a decision heavily influenced by his wife's aesthetic preferences. This post highlights the personal considerations and relationship dynamics that often play a role in luxury watch purchases, culminating in a satisfying 'couple watches' outcome.
In my previous post, I told you guys that I would get the Santos 100 soon.
That was the first part of the story.
This afternoon, I visited the AD, and came back with this
Hey! Wait a minute. That's not a Santos 100 ADLC with RG bezel! What happened?
OK. The second part of the story is:
After seeing my previous photos, and after much consideration, my wife dictates that:
(1) the SS Santos 100 looks much better than the ADLC model;
(2) the simple black-and-white goes with everything, whereas the gold tone on the ADLC model has its limits;
(3) according to her definition, only watches of the same model with the same color theme can be regarded as a true pair of couple watches.
That's it.
So, at the end of the day, wife's opinion prevails, as always. The SS Santos 100 is now officially on my wrist.
The proportion is just perfect.

Before trying it on, I was a little bit concerned about the 51.1mm lug-to-lug length. Fortunately, the watch sits nicely and snugly on my wrist, thanks to the slightly curved shape. Hooray!

Looks smart and neat.
Although I did not get the ADLC, I don't see this as a compromise at all. I am very delighted with this result because the watch does look fantastic on my wrist. Wife is happy that we finally have a pair of couple watches. The AD also gave me a decent discount, which made my wife feel even better.
Couldn't ask for more.

It represents a contemporary interpretation of the historic pilot's watch, featuring a larger and more robust case design compared to its predecessors. This model positioned itself as a sportier, more modern offering within the Santos collection, appealing to collectors seeking a bolder presence on the wrist while retaining the iconic square aesthetic.
The Santos 100 typically features a stainless steel or precious metal case, often with a brushed finish and polished bezel screws. Case dimensions vary, but common sizes include a large model around 51mm x 41mm. It is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, often a modified ETA caliber, providing reliable timekeeping. The crystal is usually sapphire, and water resistance is generally rated for daily wear.
For collectors, the Santos 100 is notable for its blend of heritage design with modern proportions and construction. It marked a significant update to the Santos line, moving towards a more substantial and contemporary aesthetic. Its robust build and versatile design made it a popular choice, bridging the gap between Cartier's dressier offerings and more overtly sporty watches.
that one should always listen to his wife :) Excellent choice This is my fav Santos 100 Bravo Luis Wear it in best of health Sincerely D
....well, considering all the requirements - this one actually looks very good on you! Congratulations!
"Listen to your wife, enriches your life." I very much believe in this ancient wisdom. Haha! And I put the words into action! By the way, my wife and I will have a 13-day holiday in Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro in July. Really looking forward to visiting these beautiful countries, including yours.
When I read your previous post, this one was my favourite. Besides all the arguments you brought, I accept the appeal of the ADLC but this SS is just the more appealing one. Once I saw your pictures now, they confirmed my impression and I wish you a pleasant time with your new Cartier. As you now listened to your wife twice. Next round is all yours again. ;) Cheers Kolosstt
that I will not tell my wife about :) If in Zagreb or Dubrovnik and if we can make it work we should do GTG in july ;) Best D
Santos is an iconic Cartier! Constantin
