Last year, I decided to celebrate my birthday in Geneva so I took my partner on her first ever trip to one of my favourite cities. I love Geneva not only due to the obvious attractions but for the scenery of the surrounding mountains and Lake Geneva. It is also a very safe and clean city relatively to many. Anyway, the hotel we stayed at was conveniently located next to a used watch dealer and I noticed a few vintage Pateks on the window so a visit on was inevitable. The Pateks were very nice but it was the selection of Cartier watches from the 70s and 80s that really caught our eye.  My partner fell in love with this most attractive torneau shaped manual winding watch and being a jewellery designer, she has an excellent eye when it comes to design. I must confess that I am partial to Cartier's creations in the 20th century but less so since the turn of the century as I feel their watches are too large for both more men and women. They seldom make them this petite any longer unfortunately.

So after a little bargaining, my partner spoiled herself to her first ever 'proper' watch purchase. She religiously winds it daily (almost at the same time. Yes, she has been well trained  smile) and wears it on special occasions even though arguably it would be the perfect daily watch. But such is her appreciation of this work of art and her meticulous care for it (I take the total blame for my influence over her!) that she feels wearing it daily would not give the watch the respect and accolade that it deserves.

Thank you for reading!

So dainty and yes, I am referring to the watch! smile

Absolutely gorgeous and classic. Is that an enamel dial? [nt]

No it is not.

At least I don't think so But I love the tiny bezel, the simplicity of the dial, the blue hands and the ornate crown. Thank you for your comment.

My error sorry!

According to Cemre in his reply below, the dial is in enamel.

Until half an hour ago....

I had no idea that Cartier made watches with enamel dials. This only strengthens my belief that Cartier made wonderful collectible watches in the 20th century!

Beautiful.

Cartier is the design king, and the Tortue may be the nicest. This is a fine example.
