Mr.Gatsby's journey with his De Bethune DB25 offers a compelling look into the emotional and logistical complexities that can arise even when acquiring a high-horology timepiece. His experience, marked by a two-year wait for a resolution to a dented lug, highlights the dedication collectors often invest in their watches. This article synthesizes the community's reactions and Mr.Gatsby's own reflections on perseverance and the imperfect nature of collecting.

Long story cut short. I bought the watch and realized it had a dented lug later. Disputed with the seller but eventually had friends from the supply side stepping in to help set everything in order. Finally received and is now mounted on a very nice custom strap I did two years ago for the watch. Bittersweet memories. Here are some ‘dirty’ photos:

About the De Bethune DB25 Ref. DB25

De Bethune DB25 Reference DB25

The DB25 represents De Bethune's entry in the 44.5mm manual-wind category, distinguished by its silver dial configuration within the DB25 series. This reference launched in 2006 and continues the brand's approach to contemporary haute horlogerie complications.

The 44.5mm case is crafted from 18k white gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. Water resistance extends to 30 meters. The manual-winding caliber DB2105 movement provides a substantial 120-hour power reserve. The watch features a leather strap attachment.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking De Bethune's technical approach to timekeeping in a precious metal case. The extended power reserve and manual-wind operation position it for enthusiasts who appreciate hands-on interaction with their timepieces. The 44.5mm sizing places it in contemporary proportions within the independent watchmaking segment.

This is probably the only De Bethune that I can wear without risking the watch look odd on my chicken wrist.

It is a dressy watch. What i seen from De Bethune are flashy time machines. Not everybody’s cup of tea. For me, no problem with De Bethune if hands are visible enough and if a watch look like a watch and no overkill in wanna be too original. A dent on a lug. It is a pain in the ass as you receive a new special watch. Enjoy it now, and be careful making no dents, scratches, and wear on your watch.

Can't imagine getting what you really love but came out to be short of expectations and then have to really two years to get it up to par. But all the while it makes it that much more special when it finally receive it. Congrats again.
