Sham1 shares a deeply personal journey of acquiring a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso One Re Edition, not for himself, but as a significant gift for his partner. His post beautifully illustrates how a specific watch, initially admired from afar, became a symbol of a new chapter in his life. This narrative highlights the emotional connection collectors often form with timepieces, even when they are intended for someone else.

I have always told myself that when I ever do buy a Jaeger-Le Coultre, it would have to be the iconic Reverso.  Tonight, I bought a Reverso but as you can see, it was not quite for me but for the love of my life.  I am glad she chose this model because I was shown the Reverso One Re Edition when it was launched at the SIHH a few years back. When I did see it, I had thought to myself 'what a gorgeous timepiece' but I did not have anyone to give it to. I loved the size of the watch, the font and its vintage look.

Fast forward to 2020 and I finally met someone who I believe will be with me until my last days.  Yes, yes, I remain a romantic at heart  smile

Conveniently or rather inconveniently, Jaeger had decided to discontinue the Reverso One Re edition so I looked high and low for this model but with little success. To make matters worse with the current pandemic, I am unable to leave the country unless it is for business or education purposes and flying overseas to buy a watch, I have no idea why, did not fall into either of those categories! smile

Then a week ago I was invited to a De Bethune event and decided to drop by at the adjacent display of Jaeger watches and the Re Edition caught my eyes instantly.  Me liking the watch was one thing but as the watch was for my partner, it was arguably her choice and I am pleased to say that we picked it up this evening.  It was the last piece available in the country and even though she is not really a watch enthusiast, I have seldom seen her happier. I did not think it was possible but In fact, this watch has had an even greater impact than the gorgeous engagement ring I had given her.  Mission accomplished!  smile

Speaking as a man, it is more beautiful than a ring (but ladies may think different ). Now all you have to do is get a Reverso tribute to 1931 black dial. That would make a killer couple watch

I am actually waiting for the 90th anniversary of the Reverso in 2021 and hope they will release a watch that I will be keen on!

Yes I am over the moon even though the watch is my partner's. Somehow seeing her so happy is all that matters.
