As 2016 drew to a close, blomman Mr Blue invited the WatchProSite community to reflect on Girard-Perregaux's standout novelties. This retrospective captures the collective enthusiasm for a year that brought forth a diverse array of complications and designs, setting the stage for future releases.
Friends,
2016 is coming to an end…
Soon we will see the novelties for 2017 in Geneva at the SIHH Watch Fair!
But before closing 2016 I would like to hear which one was your favourite of this year.
In the “dream category” this year we saw two new versions of the Minute Repeater Tourbillon with Bridges (White Gold and Titanium), one new Tri-Axial Tourbillon (Titanium).
The Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges (45mm) and La Esmeralda!
We did not see a new version of the Neo Tourbillon (but it still haunts my dreams) this year.
But we did see a new version of the Constant Escapement (46mm)!
Another fantastic watch of this year, the GP 1966 Skeleton in Pink Gold.
Within the GP 1966 line we saw many new models, among them the Perpetual Calendar.
But also “simpler” models like the Date and Moon Phases and the Dual Time.
And the time only 44mm.
Girard-Perregaux continued their Chamber of Wonders collection with three new pieces.
A new Competizione chronograph line with the Stradale.
And the Circuito .
For the ladies, we had the Cat’s Eye Majestic.
And the Cat’s Eye Aventurine.
So many new beautiful creations!
Like the GP 1966 Moon Phases (36mm).
But also, some Limited Editions like the Place Girardet and the 50 th Anniversary.
Another is the 1957.
Last but not least, we saw the rebirth of the Laureato!
A very productive year for Girard-Perregaux to say the least...!
You all know my choice for 2016!
Which is your choice, now when we close the books on 2016?
Best
Blomman
The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 line, introduced in 1994, draws inspiration from historical models, specifically a 1945 Art Deco piece. This collection is characterized by its rectangular or tonneau-shaped cases and a design language that evokes mid-20th century aesthetics. The Vintage 1945 series quickly became a cornerstone of Girard-Perregaux's offerings in the 1990s, reinterpreting classic forms with contemporary watchmaking standards. It represents a significant period for the brand in re-establishing its heritage-inspired collections.
Early models in the Vintage 1945 series typically featured stainless steel cases, though gold variants were also produced. The case dimensions varied depending on the specific model, often presenting a balanced profile suitable for dress wear. These watches were frequently equipped with automatic movements, showcasing Girard-Perregaux's in-house capabilities or finely finished outsourced calibers. The crystal was commonly sapphire, ensuring durability and legibility, while water resistance was generally suitable for daily wear rather than aquatic activities.
For collectors, the Vintage 1945 series appeals to those interested in neo-vintage watches that successfully blend historical design with modern execution. The 1994 introduction year marks it as one of the earlier and more influential lines from Girard-Perregaux's resurgence in the 1990s. Its various iterations, including time-only, small seconds, and later complicated versions, offer a range of choices for enthusiasts seeking a distinctive rectangular watch with a clear lineage.
Mitch\'s Esmeralda And My First G-P Cazalea
Definitely my favorite! Looks relatively simple from far away, but with so many details and so much work put into each one, it just drives me crazy, how I want one, or all three/six!
Am very glad that GP decided to re-introduce the classic size for the ! Over the last few years, when is strictly the sports versions, I do miss their many beautiful iterations of 41mm pieces. Hope to see more beautiful pieces during the SIHH 2017 launch! Cheers, Tony
This one, as well as the Neotourbillon, haunt my dreams... Best, Nicolas
would also be the Laureato Blue. CC
Sorry to be so boring and predictable. It is my only GP for now.
