Blomman Mr Blue champions the minimalist elegance of the Girard Perregaux reference 7571, a time-only watch displaying only hours and minutes. He argues that this simplicity represents the 'core' essence of a watch, with all other complications being optional, and highlights its role as a blueprint for the brand's 1966 line.
Friends,
Today I like to share a shot of a classic and elegant watch: the GP reference 7571.
Time only, actually hour and minutes only β no seconds are displayed on the dial.
This type of wristwatch is the core, the essence of a watch, IMO. All other functions or complications are optional. Yes, you might argue that you minutes is optional but again, IMO, without the minutes hand the time telling gets too general.
As CC wrote about this watch β βblueprint of the 1966 lineβ. Many major brands have this kind of βcoreβ watches in their current collection. VC Patrimony, JLC MUT 1907 to mention a couple.
I find it both great and interesting that after β100 years of wristwatchesβ, the brands still go back to the core, the essence and as I understand they have a huge success here!

what really shows in these vintage pieces is that a 33mm size can be perfectly big enough even today. I think especially with time only dress watches that have thin bezels and "empty" dials, a too large case/dial looks out of proportion. CC
Less is more! ;) I agree that 33 mm be enough on vintage pieces, but to be perfectly honest, personally I prefer 35 mm - 38 mm depending on design on vintage pieces. Modern, that is another story... Best Blomman
These types of timepieces belong to the most esthetically pleasant ones. Greetings from my JLC example, E 1901, Cal 818 (1965) in WG In a way, there is maybe also a kind of "virtually slowing" the time, at least psychologically so.. Great share & Best, my friend hs
and in white gold, not easily found for vintage dress watches. Best, CC
Elegant time only watch! :) My favorite from vintage JLC is of course the ref 2233 due to the Jubile collection... ;) Thank you for sharing your beauty! Best Blomman
Thanks for sharing yours Blomman and HS for showing the jlc. Here's an old omega deville, gifted to me by my mother. Around about my age I suppose, but happy to hear other opinions on that guess. Also a two hander, simple as it can be. Keeps good time too. Apologies for the not so photogenic background. Chris
