Lately, I have been drawn towards timepieces with colorful dials and, as fate would have it, I stumbled across this piece called "The Chambers of Wonders', produced by Girard-Perregaux offered at the Phillips Auction in Hong Kong. I was immediate captivated and, without proper inspection, I put in an absentee bid and viola...I became the winner.

Belatedly, I was anxious to find out about the background..

Contrary to geocentricism, which places the Earth at the center of the universe, heliocentricism makes the Sun a fixed point in the universe around which celestial bodies revolve. This ground-breaking theory introduced by Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus revolutionized scientific and philosophical thinking in the mid-16th century.

To commemorate this breakthrough, GP used stone marquetry art and miniature painting to produce 18 iconic timepieces around 2015-2016, Aventurine and gray jade were selected, which combined well with alternating shades of dark and pale orange jasper. Miniature paintings then add final touches to the incredible visual structure. Patience was needed in arranging cut and polished stones in a mosaic to create a stunning aesthetic effect.
