Friends,
As you all know, CC have an endless collection of stunning pieces!
One of them I saw again now in London – the Girard-Perregaux Chronograph reference 4946 with black dial.
Must confess that I find the combination of Silver and Black with small details in Red very tempting!
The Silver leaf hands are just stunning against the black dial.
Small hints of red add enough contrast to break the B/W feel.
Nice finish on the movement.
With the balance wheel and inscription in gold.
IMO, a very nice package!
Thank you, CC for letting me see this one in the metal again.
Best

The Girard-Perregaux reference 4946 is a notable example from the brand's production during the 1960s, representing a period of design evolution for the manufacturer. This reference is characterized by its understated aesthetic, reflecting the prevailing design sensibilities of the era for dress watches. It offers a clear indication of Girard-Perregaux's approach to automatic timekeeping in a more compact form factor, distinguishing it from larger or more complicated offerings of the time.
The watch features a stainless steel case measuring 34mm in diameter, a size typical for men's watches of its decade. It is fitted with an acrylic crystal, common for watches of this period, providing durability and ease of maintenance. The timepiece is powered by the automatic GP Caliber 39, which provides a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The dial is presented in a silver finish, complemented by a fixed bezel and a leather strap.
This reference appeals to collectors interested in vintage Girard-Perregaux pieces that embody the brand's mid-century design language and mechanical craftsmanship. Its straightforward date complication and classic proportions make it a versatile piece for those seeking a historically accurate representation of the brand's output. The 4946 offers a glimpse into the foundational elements that would influence later Girard-Perregaux designs.
Don't think I've seen this one before. Looks very classy and sporty at the same time. Would have liked it more without the white date window though, but not a deal breaker. What's the size of this one?
Or is the watch very close to the Fiat 30th Work Anniversary model? Black dial, date and transparent caseback here but the dial and case layout & design looks to be very, very similar, no? Excellent piece - have not seen it in Vienna But then again you are so full of surprises, when it comes to GP...
I did not bring this one to Vienna. Re your observation: only at a first look. There are lots of differences: The case is more "vintage" esp. wit the boxed crystal The FIAT has the ETA Movement and not the GP in-house movement The date of course The applied numerals are very distinctive on the 4946 CC
The beauty of this forum is the real depth of knowledge! One to bring next year, though
Same for me, not a big fan of date windows at 4:30, but here I don't think it is a deal breaker! Best Blomman
But I still have the beige one in my mind! Best Blomman
