AndrewD's 2013 Baselworld report on the Girard-Perregaux Hawk ceramic models remains highly relevant for collectors interested in the brand's material innovations. His initial impressions highlight how the new ceramic case perfectly complements the angular design of the Sea Hawk and Chrono Hawk, offering enhanced scratch resistance. This post provides valuable historical context for GP's use of advanced materials in its sports watch lineup.

The Hawk diver (the Sea Hawk) and Chronograph (the Chrono Hawk) watches receive a new livery at BaseWorld 2013, a black ceramic case.

The ceramic perfectly complements the angular sculptured stealth fighter look of the original steel Hawk watches. This case is made from ultra-fine zirconium oxide and has a hardness of 1400 on the Vicker’s scale (in comparison stainless steel is rated at 180). This scratch resistance makes it even easier to wear as a 44mm sports watch.

I haven’t seen one in the … ceramic, yet, but just from the press images the ceramic Sea Hawk is my new favourite in the lineup.

I didn't used to think I was, but I am definitely liking a ;ot of black watches these days. While I still don't love these new GP designs, I prefer them greatly in black. Black creates possibly a superficial cohesion to any design. So it can improve a design a lot.

HI All Looks like the case has the ceramic as a covering over an inner section. Any idea on the materail used for this internal part?? As it seems the watch is light, maybe aluminium? Cheers Tim

.... it is made from titanium. 45% lighter than steel, but with the same tensile strength and the perfect inert material for a sports watch. Andrew
