Friends,

let’s start with coverage of this year’s new releases from Girard-Perregaux at SIHH 2019. As usual, during the show, the booth is very crowded and you don’t really get time to deeply appreciate all the models nor do you have good natural light to take some decent photos.

However, live shots will always bring a better idea on a watch than press release photos.

So let’s start with one watch that has been released this year under the theme of „Earth-to-Sky“ from Girard-Perregaux. While not being a true novelty as we can easily see that it ist he same Neo Bridges from 2 years ago, it does provide a fresh update on this quite popular model.

Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges Earth-to-Sky edition, Ref. 84000-21-632-BH6A sits (quite rightly) within the Bridges collection and has the same Reference number as the original Neo Bridges. In fact, it is the same watch and movement, also having a Titanium case. The Earth-to-Sky edition however, has a DLC coated black case and some blue colour theme within the indexes and the main barrel cover / automatic rotor. Overall, the main plate is darker / more black than the original Neo Bridges.

The black theme continues on the back side with the bridges having a black finish. Sorry, for the poor quality but the watches all has special stickers on the back that made shooting them not exactly easy.

It is no surprise that the wrist feel is very similar and the amazing micro-rotor still catches the eye a lot whether it is blue or silver.

I would say a good second version for the Neo Bridges that will find appreciation among buyers. It will be a matter of taste which version to get.

For me personally, I still prefer the original Neo Bridges as black cases are usually not for me.

So let us know what you think, are you a black watch type or more traditional?

Best,

CC

About the Girard-Perregaux Bridges Ref. 84000

The Girard-Perregaux Bridges reference 84000 was introduced as part of the brand's "Earth-to-Sky" theme at SIHH 2019, distinguishing itself within the Bridges collection through its contemporary design and material choices. This reference continues the brand's tradition of showcasing movement architecture, a hallmark of the Bridges line, while incorporating modern aesthetics that appeal to a new generation of collectors. It represents an evolution of the classic Bridges concept, adapting it for current tastes.

This particular reference features a case crafted from black DLC titanium, providing a lightweight yet robust structure. The watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, the Caliber GP09400-0001, which is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and durability.

For collectors, the 84000 appeals to those who appreciate Girard-Perregaux's horological heritage but seek a more contemporary and technical presentation. Its black DLC titanium case and openworked dial design position it as a distinctive piece within the broader Bridges collection, offering a modern interpretation of a classic design principle. The "Earth-to-Sky" theme further contextualizes its design philosophy.

Between the two, I prefer the newer Earth to Sky version. From your photos, it looks like legibility is vastly improved with hands now standing against an all-black background. The details of the bridges and other sttructural elements of the dial are are now less visible from a distance, but are still there and will surely surprise and please the observer when he get up close. Last but not least, in my experience black theme makes larger watches like this one easier to wear...

The best from GP at SIHH, in my opinion. The movement leaves me a bit underwhelmed, but I guess that's more than made up for in the front.

probably need to follow up looking at the watches again outside of the craziness of SIHH for a better understanding and appreciation.

I'm a bit hesitant to have this open bridge architecture without the Tourbillon complication, but that would be anyhow in another sphere. Let's see if we can top that over the next few weeks

I'm sure you will the opportunity to check it out soon in DXB. Legibility is indeed improved, but I also found the older Neo quite legible. CC
