Crown comfort shares a detailed review of his Girard-Perregaux Richeville Day/Night Reference 27610, recently returned from service. This article highlights the watch's unique design, including its tonneau case and rotating 24-hour ring, and discusses the author's preference for the steel version over the pink gold model he previously owned.
Friends,
A few weeks ago, I got back my GP Richeville Day/Night from service.
I got this watch with the help of a Purist about a year ago, but it turned out to have a provlem with the rotating 24hr ring. Very strange problem it was. If I put down the watch at night laying on its side (buckle is a deployant), the ring would stop at some point while the minute hand kept on going and overall the watch keep time accurately. If on the other hand, I put the watch in the box (dial up), the ring would rotate without problem.
Even more interesting, as the ring needs to be synchronized with the minute hand, e.g. at 60min, a hour number needs to be exactly at 12, after the ring has stopped and I reset the watch, somehow it synchronized again and ran again as well.
Whatever, not a big deal, I’m more comfortable having the watch serviced at the manufacture anyhow, so it went in for a full service.
Now I can enjoy the watch without any worries and that I have been doing for a few weeks already. As you probably know, I used to have the pink gold version which I had bought brand-new and I always liked the way time is displayed on this watch. When I decided to let the pink gold go it was already with the plan to acquire the steel version.
The case of the modern Richeville is quite large and fully polished which always had me a bit worried to wear the gold Richeville or even felt comfortable in a casual setting. No such feelings with the steel Day/Night, a watch that can be worn daily regardless the attire.
I also think that the dial colours are more harmonious than on the gold version, but what I kept was the tan coloured strap over the standard black. I think the blue accents come out more with the tan strap.
Another feature, I really like is the Power Reserve indicator. If you look closely, both the power reserve and the small seconds circles are applied on the dial, giving it a very three-dimensional look. And the Power Reserve is a very useful feature as well that on this dial provides the needed asymmetry to make the dial even more interesting.
For me this is one of the most interesting modern GPs that has quite a unique place in horology and the combination of Tonneau case with the round 24 hour ring provides a high recognition.
A true keeper in my collection.

The Girard-Perregaux Richeville Day Night, reference 27610, is a distinctive timepiece within the Richeville collection, known for its tonneau-shaped cases. This model stands out with its unique day/night indication and an unconventional approach to time display, offering a blend of classic elegance and innovative design.
It features a self-winding mechanical movement, likely based on a Girard-Perregaux caliber, housed within its curved case. The dial incorporates a 24-hour inner ring that provides a visual representation of day and night, adding a functional yet artistic element to the watch. The case dimensions are designed to sit comfortably on the wrist, complementing its refined aesthetic.
For collectors, the Richeville Day Night 27610 represents Girard-Perregaux's willingness to explore alternative displays and case forms beyond traditional round designs. Its unique dial configuration and elegant tonneau case make it a notable piece for those appreciating watches with individual character and a departure from conventional layouts.
As you said one of most interesting modern GPs. Glad all went well! Cheers D
CC, Thanks for the puzzling story. Superb watch; congratulations. It is amazing how many unusual models were produced by G-P that most people like me would not imagine for that era. Nowadays, such quirkiness is normal and expected but G-P was doing it already. Rotating hour indicator. Tonneau case. Blue screen dialside. You may be correct about tan straps enhancing blue dial accents. Omega also issued tan strap with Speedmaster Big Arrow in the early 2000s that had very blue highlights. Regards
I find the case a bit bulky, but I can live with that. This Richeville Night and Day is very high in my wish list, for the reasons you mentioned. An excellent watch. Enjoy it! Best, Nicolas
Such a great original GP! Cool, playful with a twist... Just how we love to see GP! Best Blomman
GP does have a good track record of making out-of-the-box-thinking watches and the Richeville Day/Night is one of them.
The rotating day/night 24 hours disc is something really cool and so unusual. That’s mainly why I was interested in buying this GP few years ago. Unfortunately, as I already told you, that didn’t work on my wrist. That’s life 😕 Enjoy yours now it’s back 😉 Best wishes Alkiro
