Lankysudanese's account of his visit to the Grönefeld workshop offers a rare glimpse into the world of independent watchmaking. His narrative highlights the profound difference in client experience when engaging directly with the creators, a stark contrast to the often impersonal interactions at larger brand dealerships. This piece underscores the unique value proposition of independent horology, where personal connection and passion often supersede transactional dynamics.

The Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire is a distinguished offering from the independent Dutch watchmakers, Tim and Bart Grönefeld. It represents their commitment to traditional haute horlogerie combined with a distinctive contemporary aesthetic, positioning itself as a significant piece within their limited production portfolio.
The timepiece features a constant force mechanism, or remontoire d'égalité, integrated into its hand-wound movement, ensuring consistent power delivery to the escapement for enhanced accuracy. The movement, visible through a sapphire case back, is meticulously finished with polished bevels, circular graining, and Geneva stripes. The case is typically crafted from precious metals, housing a dial designed for legibility and understated elegance.
For collectors, the 1941 Remontoire is valued for its technical sophistication and the brothers' dedication to artisanal craftsmanship. Its limited production numbers and the inclusion of a complex constant force complication contribute to its desirability and long-term appeal within the independent watchmaking segment.
what a watch! congrats all around, that is a unique life experience!
What a great experience and testament for the brand and owners. They are making some truly exceptional watches but it's nice to hear they're still very down to earth and enjoyable. This sentence really hit home as truth to me: "It was a stark contrast to the treatment from my local Rolex AD who won’t even take an OP 41mm out of a display case for me to try". Thanks for sharing your experience.
You nailed it with why these indie brands are so amazing and great . Looking forward to see your new Gronefeld,s pics when possible. A factory tour will always makes the nwa a bit more special imho
Which is why I much prefer the indie's over the major houses. There is still that sense of appreciation from them, that comes from being a small business owner. Where you can literally have a personal conversation with the owners. I hope the shift from major houses to indies continues to grow as they deserve it.
Met them at Watches & Wonders in Geneva earlier this year and had the same impression as you. They are so down to earth and cool. No idea if you know about Green Tea Gate or how the brothers presented this Grönograaf to our group that was there. It was an unbelievable experience and one I will remember forever since it bonded our group with this particular piece (the Grönograaf) In any case, wish I would have known you were coming to Europe as it would be great to get together for a GTG 😉👍 Are y
A Grönefeld is for ever. And good you turn your back to Rolex AD’s. I did the same. And i skip my plan to buy my first Cartier at that AD when i taste the arrogant behavior even through e-mail communication. I searched and found a watch trader with love for watches who have great Cartiers in stock and can order. But i made my definite next buy list: Padaaa, a Omega CK859 is serious on the next watch list. Nr 2 a Globemaster with green dial. Nr 3 a vintage railroad Bulova Accutron.
