Alex highlights a significant moment for independent watchmakers at the Geneva Grand Prix, showcasing 12 pieces that made the final selection list in 2010. This post celebrates the growing recognition of independent craftsmanship across various categories, from ladies' watches to complex complications. Alex's compilation offers a valuable overview of the innovative and diverse creations from these visionary artisans, underscoring their increasing presence in the horological landscape.
It is quite rare to see so many pieces from independent watchmakers to make it on the preselection list for the Geneva watchmaking Grand prix. Brands sign up their watches in the catagories which they think most appropriate (ie. men's watch, complications etc...) and a jury preselects 10 pieces in each category to compete. The winners are announced during a ceremony in Nov.

The F.P. Journe Vagabondage I represents the inaugural reference in the Vagabondage series, introduced in 2004. This reference establishes the foundation for F.P. Journe's exploration of unconventional time display concepts within a compact case format.
The 36.5mm platinum case houses the manual-winding caliber 1509 movement, delivering 40 hours of power reserve. The silver dial is protected by sapphire crystal, while a fixed bezel maintains clean lines. Water resistance extends to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's approach to alternative time displays in a more intimate case size. The platinum construction and manual movement align with the brand's commitment to traditional materials and hand-winding mechanisms. As the first Vagabondage reference, it occupies a specific position for collectors interested in F.P. Journe's horological concepts beyond conventional displays.
.... would be a very welcome gift (thank you!), but the Laurent Ferrier really is 'the whole package'. Thanks for bringing them to us - roll on November! Cheers, pplater.
It is too complicated for me to choose between the classicism of the Ferrier and the originality of other ones... Pix taken by Max ! Fr.Xavier
That is an impressive array of watches Thanks for the update
Love them all. Let's see how Geneva Grand Prix evolves. Thanks. Vte
but i heard SWATCH group, rolex, PP all declined to take part? could that be a reason why independents finally have their day in the sun??
An impressive line-up of watches. The Laurent Ferrier being my favorite, but Thomas Prescher's entry is truly a stunner (they all are really, but these are my personal selections). Thanks for the coverage, Alex! All hail the Independents! Cheers, Daos
