Nicolas (amanico) shares his enduring affection for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Amvox II Platinum, a watch he has owned for 11 years. His post delves into the unique features and design choices that make this reference stand out, offering a personal perspective on its place within his collection and the broader JLC legacy. This article explores why the Amvox II remains a significant piece for collectors, particularly for its innovative chronograph activation.

2006... I had three watches, this same year. The Patek Nautilus 5712, the Ulysse Nardin 160, and this one.

The Patek has gone for another one, while the Ulysse Nardin and the JLC are still with me.

This Amvox II is such an extraordinary watch. The most inspired modern Jaeger Lecoultre, even if the Duometre family can also compete for that title, but on another league.

The league of coolness and originality.

Unique.

Ok, it is co branded and that detail is not everybody's taste. But, still, this co branding is discrete. And most of all, the watch is, or should I say was, the epitome of a sports time keeper.

44 mm case, 15 mm high, the platinum case weight a dead donkey, that's for sure. But this grey dial is so subtle and fell of charm.

AND, as every Amvox II, the lack of pushers to activate the Chronograph, is THE reason to get it. For those who don't know this watch, you use the chronograph function through the glass: At 12 you start. At 6 you stop. And through the glass, you reset to zero.

A bit like the sequential gear box of a sports car.

I hesitated a lot between the titanium black PVD version and this one, to be honest. The Titanium PVD goes farther in terms of conceptual look, that is certain. But this grey dial is such a charm.

Are there things which could be improved?

I see three things:

- The strap, which is of poor quality, but you can solve that issue quite easily... Go for the Amvox III strap, as I did, and as you can see on the picture above, and it will be perfect.

- The folding buckle: I don't find it very comfortable to wear, and its metal is not matching with the case. I mean the platinum, not the titanium versions, whose buckles are matching, to be clear.

- The date... It spoils the dial, a bit.

Though, these issues are not big enough to spoil my pleasure to own and wear it.

This dial is so fresh, so young... Can you imagine, when you see this picture, that the Amvox II is... 11 years old?

In my opinion, the Amvox II is in all simplicity the best Amvox ever made.

And this is the only Amvox I kept in my collection. It killed the Amvox One in my heart.

Best,

Nicolas

About the Jaeger LeCoultre Amvox2 Ref. AMVOX2

The Amvox2 represents Jaeger LeCoultre's approach to contemporary sports timing, offered here in the Steel Black series configuration. This 44mm reference positions itself as a substantial automatic chronograph within the Amvox2 collection, distinguished by its monochromatic steel and black dial treatment.

The 44mm steel case houses an automatic movement and features a black dial beneath sapphire crystal protection. Water resistance extends to 100 meters, while a fixed bezel completes the case architecture. The steel construction and automatic movement provide the mechanical foundation for this chronograph reference.

This Steel Black series Amvox2 appeals to collectors seeking a modern Jaeger LeCoultre sports chronograph with substantial wrist presence. The 44mm case diameter and black dial configuration offer a contemporary alternative within the Amvox2 range, providing automatic chronograph functionality in a steel sports watch format. The combination of size, materials, and dial treatment positions this reference for collectors focused on modern Jaeger LeCoultre sports complications.

...I was just wearing my Amvox II titanium today. While I'm probably the only person who enjoys the original strap design, I think we agree on everything else. Less imaginative alternative-mech watches from pretentious upstart brands have sold for multiples of the mighty Amvox II, and I'm still captivated by how much design and engineering innovation JLC packed into this reference without elevating the price to prohibitive heights. I also love that for all of its ground-breaking "concept-watch"

The glass broke... But JLC fixed that quite quickly. For the rest, nothing else to say nor to add... A watch which is not appreciated at the level it should be. But future will give the amvox II the consideration it deserves. I am convinced of that. Thanks for your interesting feedback, Tim. Best, Nicolas

I was always impressed by how massive the box-section crystal on the Amvox II is. Now I know why! It seems to absorb almost all of the knocks and glancing blows to the watch (to the advantage of the titanium finish), so there must have been a point where JLC realized they needed a stronger crystal that can also act as a shock absorber. And although we rarely mention it, the preponderance of crystal on the AMII makes it one of the few watches I've seen that feature essentially NO bezel structure.
