Kong shares an exclusive look into a Jaeger-LeCoultre dinner event in Hong Kong, hosted by "The Watch Magazine." The evening celebrated the Duomètre à Sphérotourbillon, a significant SIHH 2012 launch, with attendees experiencing JLC's novelties firsthand and gaining insights from guest speaker Dr. MTF.

On the night of 16 March, I attended an impressive Jaeger Le-Coultre dinner event organized by “The Watch Magazine”.  The star watch of the night is the new Duometre a Spherotourbillon launched during the SIHH 2012!

Cocktail Time

We gathered at the Heritage 1881 JLC boutique and they have majority of the 2012’s novelties showing there and available for all the guests to try on.

Dinner Time
We moved on to St. George Restaurant at Hullett House for the dinner.

Mr. Alfred Lung, publisher of The Watch Magazine and Mr. Benjamin Aubanton , JLC’s Regional Communication director gave the opening speech to welcome all the guests  and the guest speaker of the night was Dr. MTF!

Guest speaker -  Dr. MTF

MTF started with some history of JLC and mentioned that JLC has more than 300 patents on the movements! Then he shared his thoughts on what a haute horlogerie and also his views on the 2012 novelties.  He then highlighted JLC’s stratospheric watches from  the past to present:
 2004 - Gyrotourbillon,
2006 - Triptyque,
2007 - Gyrotourbillon 2,
2009 - Hybris Mechanica a Grande Sonnerie,
2010 - Master Grande Tradition Grnade Complication, Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire

MTF then mentioned the key features of Spherotourbillon which are:
The Duometre concept - that is energy from 1st barrel for regulating organ and energy from the 2nd barrel for display
The constant amplitude - amplitude variation to 10%
Adjustable to the nearest second
The flyback seconds hands
The carriage inclination at 20 degree.

After MTF’s presentation, we started the dinner!

After the main course -  by then all of us were quite full -  but we were hungry to find out more about Spherotourbillon!  So Mr. Jean-Luc Faure, the Regional Operations Director, stood up and gave us more information on the movement.

Mr. Jean-Luc Faure, Regional Operations Director of JLC

He showed us the a video on the movement and talked about the dual wing movement concept, and how this “one watch with two brains” works on the Spherotourbillon .  The first barrel drives the time-keeping (balace wheel and hands). The second barrel drives the tourbillon cage so movement of the tourbillon is uncoupled from the balance wheel. Thus, balance wheel oscillation and amplitude are very stable.

After his speech, we moved on to dessert and had coffee.

Then of course the most exciting try-on time!

It was a very enjoyable evening, many thanks to JLC HK, The Watch Magazine, and Dr. MTF!
