Nicolas (amanico) presents the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Chronograph Aston Martin Edition, offering a critical aesthetic analysis of this rarely seen timepiece. He argues that while the watch is appealing, certain design choices—specifically the date display, the 'Automatique' text, and the prominent Aston Martin logo—detract from its potential for 'killing beauty.' Nicolas invites a discussion on how these details impact the overall purity and strength of the dial.

We saw this version a very few times, in the real or in pictures.

I recently fell on some pictures of this Master Chronograph, in my hard disc:

And immediately thought was we were not far from a very appealing watch.

What is missing, here?

Remove the date, even if it has the good taste to match with the rest of the dial, but I still persist, without date, the dial would look more " pure ", cleaner, stronger, even.

Then, the word " Automatique, " was not necessary. We all know that the Cal 751 is automatic. Ok, it is in red, but a red JLC signature would have been awesome.

The Aston Logo was not necessary, either: Put it on the case back, it would be enough.

The Devil is in the details. And yes, I persist, we are not far from a killing beauty... Without these details.

Best,

Nicolas

on this.....

....i could live with it all.....but the date is superfluous on this style of watch.

That is my main issue, too. [nt]

i am not perhaps as adamant.....

....i feel that certain watches are improved by the addition of a date function......some watches improved significantly. Yet, for other watches, it is an unnecessary function that detracts from the central DNA of the watch.

Totally agree. On the Polaris, for example, it is part of the DNA. On this Chrono, it was not mandatory, in my opinion. [nt]

Interesting...

Which watches do you feel benefit from the date? (Not counting, of course, watches where the date complication is a particular feature - PCs, ACs, or even a \'big date\'.) Best E.

Specifically.....

.....watches where the date is an integral part. As you mention, AC, PC. Also where multi complications are present grand complications.
