KMII's original post revisits the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Memovox, a timepiece that, despite its avant-garde design at launch, remains a compelling 'neovintage' option. KMII prompts a discussion on its enduring appeal, innovative features like the crown locking mechanism and 1000-hour testing, and its distinct non-dressy aesthetic. This article explores why this particular reference continues to resonate with collectors, even as market trends shift towards direct reissues.

When it was launched it was quite an avant-garde piece. The new design language from Magali Metrailler, the new crown locking mechanism no longer requiring the Neanderthal screwing and unscrewing to wind or set, the then interesting 1000 hour testing, and a modern take on an alarm dive watch.

The world developed differently and turned towards direct reissues as opposed to new designs but the watch remains a wonderful piece. Clearly a non-dressy piece, which was a statement at the time when suits were still regularly worn.

And goes well with a wide strap selection. If there’s one gripe I have with it, it’s that it doesn’t sit comfortably on all wrists and it is a large watch and doesn’t hide it - either size or weight wise.

Any others still in safes or on rotation here?

Was the first JLC I fell in love with…

And ended becoming my first, too. Do you have recent pictures of yours?

Way back then....

I wanted to get the Beverly Hills boutique limited edition Navy Seals one with the orange accents, but wasn't able to at that point in time, and literally haven't seen a single one of those hit the market since!!....

Wasn’t aware of that version…

Very similar to that, but not exactly!!

I actually 'dug it out' relatively recently in a thread that Nico participated in, just before his sabbatical, and even he had forgotten that the orange accent BH boutique version was ever advertised! I think he said he doesn't know if they actually made any further examples outside of those prototypes that were presented when the watches were first unveiled at the BH store here in L.A.....
