Last year MGT Minute Repeater 39:

This year, we have the Van Gogh enamel dial.

The Small Seconds disappeared at the benefit of a superb plain enamel dial. Without holes to let the hammers of the minute repeater play.

Which is good, for me, as this was a detail I disliked on the former Master Minute Repeater enamel versions.

Still, two problems: The " sonnerie plaque ", which hides the gongs welded to the sapphire, a revolutionary but now traditional technique used by JLC.

And, this prominent pusher, shaped as a trigger, which I find too big for a watch of this class.

It houses the Cal 942, an automatic movement which is nice looking from the dial side, a bit less interesting to see from the back side.

Here, a view on the dial side:

The proportions of the case are great, from my point of view: 39 mm is a very good size, and 12, 2 mm is not too thick.

And these new Master Grande Tradition cases are very elegantly re shaped, I have to say.

Now, is the path toward automatic movements for a minute repeater a good thing, that I am less sure...

Best,

Nicolas

What if they made a non-repeater time-only version of this watch, in precious metals only with an enamel dial? That would be sweet. J

Were those the two handed ultra thin models?

This JLC's minute repeater layout appears to be their workhorse module - on this watch, as you said they use it on the dial side. On the Master Grand Tradition Grande Complication (with tourbillon and skychart) they have a near-identical architecture and flipped this to the caseback side orientation! Note subtle bridge differences - orientation of cannon pinion has to be flipped for hours and thus central wheel/bridge section has the biggest modification. Also, for some reason they covered up th

Have to say I'm not keen on the plaque either - though if it has to be there, I'd rather they put JLC on it than sonnerie or indeed notes. Its a bit like putting platinum or PT on the dial of a platinum watch - a bit unnecessary. Otherwise very nice watch - both versions. I was lucky to have a play with one a while back. Cheers JML

But also - it seems to pause or throughthe process of going through the hours, quarters and minutes. If its just gone an hour say 8:09 the gap between the hours and the minutes seems quite big. Not sure how other repeaters are. It chimes hours quarters and minutes. Very nice watch Cheers JML
