Nicolas (amanico) introduces the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Celeste, an evolution of the 2014 Hybris Artistica Celestial Tourbillon. This post meticulously details the new iteration's larger case, cleaner dial with luminous constellations, and the continued use of the Caliber 946, offering a preview before a deeper dive.

Well, rather than a totally new watch, I would say that it is an iteration of the Hybris Artistica Master Grande Tradition Celestial Tourbillon, issued in a limited edition of only 3 pieces, in 2014.

The Hybris Artistica Master Grande Tradition Celestial Tourbillon from 2014:

A watch I reviewed here:

www.watchprosite.com

With this new Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Celeste, you have a slightly bigger case ( 43 mm versus 42 mm ), the new MGT case adopted by the Gyrotourbillon 5 and the MGT Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar, and a revisited dial, more sober, but with a twist...

The new MGT Case:

The cleaner dial:

With this special detail, the constellations are luminous! Which is a pretty good thing for a celestial watch.

In the darkness:

This is watch you'll see in the day... And in the night:

The movement is the same than the one of the MGT Celestial Tourbillon from the Hybris Artistica Collection, the Cal 946, which is manual winding, with a power reserve of 45 hours.

I will make the same comment than for the Hybris Artistica version, I am happy to see a manual winding movement, but I would have preferred to see more of this movement, rather than these big plates.

Made in white gold, it is a limited edition of 28 pieces.

The complications are the followings: An orbital flying tourbillon depicting the sidereal time, which means that it will make a full revolution around the dial in 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds, a Zodiacal Calendar, the months, a sky chart of the northern hemisphere, and the 24 hours indication.

I will come back to this watch in a deeper way, once I can see it in the reality.

Best,

Nicolas

I like the finishing on case sides and the design details on the reverse of the case. A manual winding movement is a good choice and JLC probably thought that large decorated plates over the movement looked aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately this hides the movement. Finally, it would have been better with a more interesting crown design, possibly integrated into the case. I will be interested to see this piece in person. Thanks Nicolas for bringing it to my attention.

JLC has come out with quite a few statement pieces lately. Just would wish that they are again showing some more creativity and audacity in the more basic parts of their collection. Like during the reign of Jerome Lambert with watches like the initial Master Compressor,Duometre line,Reverso 1931,Reverso Squadra, MUT line ...

I guess a solution for 'no tourbillon' guys would be still to have it, but discretely, seeing it only the movement side....

Agree about your sentiments regarding the plates. Still, what a watch?!!!!
