Amanico delves into the subtle yet significant differences between the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris 1965 and its 'LeCoultre' branded counterpart. This post serves as an invaluable guide for collectors seeking to distinguish between these rare vintage dive watches, highlighting variations in dial text, movement signatures, and case back markings.

Till a few days ago, I saw more Lecoultre Polaris 1965 than Jaeger Lecoultre. Now, it is 50 / 50.

Other than the signature on the dial, are there other differences?

Mainly one: The wording: Automatic Alarm Calendar on the Lecoultre, a more sober Automatic on the Jaeger-Lecoultre.

Lecoultre Polaris 1965:

Also the word Memovox on the alarm disc of the Lecoultre, while the Jaeger-Lecoultre doesn't have it.

Don't think that the hands are different: Both Lecoultre and Jaeger-Lecoultre had Dauphine or Baton hands. Both are correct.

Another secret detail for those who are on the hunt for a Polaris 1965: Most of them are in the 987 xxx serial range, even if I saw a correct one in the 1, 0xx xxx range.

A last detail: The Lecoultre Polaris 1965 should have a Lecoultre signed movement, and a case back bearing the year 1965.

The Jaeger-Lecoultre Polaris 1965 should have the same year on the case back, but with a movement signed Jaeger-Lecoultre.

Those small hints will help you to avoid a re assembled Polaris 1965, as they are much, very much rarer than the Polaris 1968.

I may have seen around 100 Vintage Polaris 1968, I saw only 10 Polaris 1965, in these ten last years, to give you an idea.

That being said, place to the pictures.

1/ JLC Polaris 1965 Serial Number 987 66x:

2/ JLC Polaris 1965 Serial Number 987 68x:

And as I said, seeing one is a unforgettable experience, but two?

I must say that I ma quite tempted to try to get one Jaeger-Lecoultre version of this damn Polaris 1965, to make the pair with my Lecoultre...

Best,

Nicolas

About the Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox Ref. Polaris1968

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Polaris 1968 is a notable iteration of the Memovox line, distinguished by its multi-crown design and internal rotating bezel. This particular reference is recognized for its robust case construction and the integration of an alarm function, a signature complication of the Memovox series, presented in a sport-oriented configuration. It represents a specific period in the development of the Memovox collection, offering a distinct aesthetic and functional profile.

This timepiece features a stainless steel case, measuring 42mm in diameter. It is powered by an automatic movement, specifically the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber K825, which provides the time, alarm, and an internal rotating bezel function. The crystal protecting the dial is acrylic, contributing to its period-correct appearance. The movement offers a power reserve suitable for daily wear.

For collectors, the Memovox Polaris 1968 holds interest due to its unique design elements and its place within the broader history of alarm watches. Its three-crown configuration, with one crown for winding and setting the time, another for setting and activating the alarm, and a third for operating the internal bezel, makes it a distinctive piece. The watch appeals to those who appreciate mid-century sports watch designs with integrated complications.
