e-Man shares his exceptionally rare 1951 Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock, distinguished by its rhodium plating and front-facing regulator knob. His detailed observations highlight the unique combination of features that make this particular Atmos II movement a standout piece, even among thousands of examples he has tracked.
just responded to the Skeleton Clock post below, but reposting here since that post is about to roll to next page.........
From 1951, 100% original, an extremely rare iteration due to the combination of it being rhodium plated and the regulator knob facing towards the FRONT of the clock. I think JLC only did a small run of these front facing regulator knobs, so when you cross that with the uncommon rhodium plated, and further cross that with the Atmos II movement, and look at the all-original excellent condition, well I have NEVER seen this exact JLC Atmos permutation, and I've watched more than 5000 Atmos e-B*y auctions. If you look closely at the second picture, you can pick up part the adjustor knob. The closest I've seen is a permutation where the 3 and 9 were "horizontal", not "vertical".
It was fully serviced in the last two years, and keeps very accurate time.

Realizing mine is only a sample of one, and 58 years old, I have heard some reknowned Atmos experts note that the Atmos should run within 30-60 seconds per MONTH. Well, that is certainly doable, but NOT on a sustained basis, as paradoxically, the very trigger that provides the stimulus for the Atmos to self-wind, change in temperature, is also the variable versus which it has no means to compensate its pendulum. Over the course of one full year of testing, my Atmos ran an average of +5 seconds p
Yes, the new one from Marc Newson is nice as well, but to expensive (for my taste). I prefer the "old" ones in white metal whith arabic numbers. Here is mine and I think it won´t be my last. Maybe with a moon, maybe with ... ;-) Perfect place in our dining room ... Cheers oliver
what year, and what caliber? Thanks, Eric
Cal. 560 - still in production oliver
I think its a beautiful clock but contrary to others' experiences, mine doesn't run that well. It always goes too fast - maybe 5 minutes a week. And I have the arm of the adjuster all the way to the slow side. It's been that way since new about 4 years ago but I didn't want to mail it off for service. Gives me a chance to open it up regularly though... Mike
We really have to make a review on the Atmos... You just gave me the envy, the reason, and the passion to make it. Atmos watches are magic and beautiful instruments of time..Of Time! They are right, E Man, you should contact JLC to ask them more infos about your Atmos... I checked a bit in all my documentation, and I found nothing.... Best! Nicolas
