Ornatus-Mundi introduces the Lang & Heyne Georg, a new rectangular timepiece unveiled at BaselWorld 2017, named after Saxon Count Georg. This post highlights the watch's distinctive design, emphasizing its 'rehabilitation of lines and edges,' and showcases the equally innovative new Caliber VIII movement, a testament to independent German watchmaking.

Exciting news from Dresden: independent manufacturer Lang & Heyne just presented their newest creation Georg , named after Saxon Count Georg (nicknamed 'the Bearded'), who - as legend has it - grew a beard to mourn his late wife. L&H's 'Georg' is meant as a statement for the 'rehabilitation of lines and edges', and is driven by an equally new and idiosyncratically beautiful new movement Caliber VIII:

The new timepiece has an enamel face with large eccentric seconds dial and new (to L&H) lancette hands. Its clothed in an elaborate and new (to L&H) rectangular case shape which abounds in edges, surfaces and structures. It is slightly domed on the backside to ensure supple fit to the wrist.

Equally interesting is the new movement Caliber VIII, a truly openworked piece with superbly polished rounded bridges in stainless steel and indivudually polished jewel countersinks. Its architecture gives the word 'movement plate' back its original meaning:

Initially, Georg comes in three versions (from left to right): Platinum (blue hands, €39.000), white gold (rosé gold hands, €31.500) and red gold (rosé gold hands, €29.940):

Wow, an appointment I am really looking forward to...

More in a few days!

Cheers,
Magnus

One of the most interesting and beautiful movements I have seen in a non-round case in a long time!

And the case design. Good work from this small manufacture.

This is really quite something - kudos to L&H. Gorgeous movement. I'm not quite sure yet about the offset dial, but I am very willing to be convinced! Best E.

More beautiful than his prior movements. And the dial draws you in. Interesting that Moritz Grossmann is adding an enamel dial to its collection as well. This is a great time for independent German watchmakers.

I am smitten by this beauty (and already send an inquiry regarding the possibility to place an order).
