Mach's initial impressions of the new A. Lange & Söhne 1815, specifically its 34mm case size and 6.4mm thickness, sparked a lively debate among collectors. His post challenges the prevailing trend of larger, thicker timepieces, questioning whether the market is ready for such a dramatic shift. This article synthesizes community insights on the evolving preferences for watch dimensions and the enduring appeal of classic proportions.

I too was surprised they went from 38.5 mm (which I believe is the smallest 1815 case size in current production) to 34, instead of to 36 mm. Personally, my old 1815 in 36 mm is the smallest I go these days, but perhaps Lange is embracing the shift towards smaller and thinner watches. Which is extremely refreshing! What were your initial impressions? Considering it’s “all dial” and thin bezel, perhaps it wore a bit larger, like 35-36 mm?
it's a rather abrupt shift from larger diameters. Let's wait and see how collectors react. Thanks for sharing. Best, Emmanuel
JLC tried that a while ago, I love mine! But it is thin and feels amazing. And my wrist is rather large, 7.5in. Thanks for this early review, I love how shiny new watches are!!! Best, E.
The height gives the chance for the cases to be designed and sculpted, which I also prefer. But, tastes are each to his own, so ☺️
The blue with crisp letters. I’d say there is little that exudes more quality that I have experienced than a brand new Lange. Definitely wears bigger than listed size. Seems like a perfect set up for a platinum dress watch.
Interesting that they're using the standard straps with visible stitching, rather than the straps with no stitching that they've used on some smaller watches in recent years. I guess this shouldn't be too surprising. Appreciate your sharing these initial pics.
