In a recent post, cfn shared a trio of 'old school' items that serve as daily inspiration, emphasizing enduring quality. His curated selection, featuring an A. Lange & Söhne 1815 in yellow gold, a Montblanc M pen, and a Barneys New York notebook, sparks a discussion on the appeal of classic design and exceptional craftsmanship. This article delves into the details of cfn's choices and the community's insights.

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
I think a lot of us here are suckers for these things!! You are not alone!
I love that strap. Do you mind sharing some details about it?
I bought two different straps back in 2021. I believe the one on the 1815 is the waxed one. It is really, really nice with some kind of rubber coating on the inside. Pueblo is the one on the blue Lange 1 while the wxed is on the 1815. I also tried taking a close-up of the inside of the waxed strap where you’ll see the rubber-like material. Just checked their site and could not find the waxed strap. I did find the other onee though. Maybe write them and ask. I can only give the highest recommemda
Had the best customer experience there I have ever had. My wife and I were browsing the store. She found a pajamas on final sale at a really great, low price. Regardless, we got the full service experience in the shop, includimg wrapping, etc. The next day there was a hand=written letter on high-quality paper thanking us for the purchase and giving some contact details if we needed anything else. I am still telling that story.
I will check it out.
I love the 1815 and the blue hands really pop in your pic.. but is that yellow or rose? Cause the case sides look polished instead of brushed
