This post underscores how shared horological passion, particularly for A. Lange & Söhne, can forge meaningful friendships beyond online forums. Jay's narrative emphasizes the importance of these real-world encounters for deepening appreciation and discussion of fine timepieces.
As some of you will have read via other posts of mine recently I’ve managed to meet several forum members in person over the last few months. It’s always great to do this, and I’m regretful that I haven’t put more effort into this.
Anyway, several weeks ago Dimardi and I managed to grab lunch when he was in town for a few days.
He and I have corresponded for a while, initially prompted by some Lange posts and discussions.
So it was fitting that when we finally got together in person it was mostly Lange on the table. With one notable imposter.
Apologies for the poor photos, I’ll blame the restaurant lighting.
(And Orahu, if you are reading this next time we need to take some watch pictures. No pictures, it didn’t happen LOL).

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 236.050 is a limited edition timepiece distinguished by its use of honey gold, a proprietary alloy developed by the brand. This particular reference was part of a special collection celebrating the 175th anniversary of Ferdinand A. Lange's birth, offering a unique aesthetic within the otherwise classic 1815 line, which typically features more conventional precious metals. It represents a subtle yet significant departure in material choice, appealing to collectors seeking rarity and a distinct visual warmth.
This watch features a 38.5mm case crafted from honey gold, paired with a solid silver dial. It is powered by the manual-winding Lange manufacture caliber L051.1, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 72 hours. The front crystal is also sapphire. The design maintains the traditional elements of the 1815 family, including blued steel hands and Arabic numerals, ensuring legibility and adherence to historical watchmaking principles.
As a limited edition, the 236.050 holds particular interest for collectors focused on A. Lange & Söhne's special releases and proprietary materials. Its honey gold case offers a unique hue that differentiates it from standard yellow, rose, or white gold pieces. This reference appeals to those who appreciate understated luxury and the technical refinement characteristic of the brand, while also valuing the exclusivity of a limited production run.
It was great meeting! Hopefully I'll be in town again soon and we can do it again! The 1815 in honey gold and the imposter were wonderful to see and wear in person! Always a pleasure to meet people from here in person...the conversations and connections are invaluable! Thanks!
Wears surprisingly well too...
Guess the black knight almost stole the show….😂
