A. Lange & Söhne's use of German Silver for its movements is a hallmark of the brand's aesthetic and traditional craftsmanship. Nicolas (amanico) initiates a compelling discussion, questioning Jaeger-LeCoultre's decision to transition from German Silver to brass for its Duometre movements due to perceived quality issues. His stunning photographic examples of Lange movements invite collectors to consider the material's enduring appeal and technical merits.

I read that Jaeger Lecoultre preferred to give up with German Silver for the Duometre movements, which are now made in brass, because it was not qualitative enough...

Well... When I see that:

I still wonder who will complain about german silver movements...

Best,

Nicolas

I'm betting German silver was more to produce or finish 🤔

Actually softer and cheaper to produce but a headache to work with…

As for the looks, I’m sure those movements would look much better in brass with a high polish.😉

My point is I'm sure this is a cost cutting

Like not having deoloyants, etc. I could be wrong just cynical

Yes, agree, cost cutting for sure and maybe even maintenance interval extension…
