Amanico introduces the A. Lange & Söhne Grande Lange One Moon Phase "Lumen" from SIHH 2016, highlighting its unique luminous features and comparing it to the earlier Grande Lange One Lumen. He details the case dimensions and the innovative use of luminescence, inviting the community to discuss this distinctive new release.
Lange introduced in the catalog, this year, the second Grande Lange One Lumen, but this time, it is the turn of the moonphase.
Indeed, in 2013, Lange unveiled this one, which was limited to 100 pieces ( * ):
The case was made of platinum, and the following elements were luminous: The Grande Date, the hours, and the power reserve, as well as the hands, of course.
The case was 40, 9 mm big and 9, 8 mm high.
This year, we have the moon phase version, with a slightly bigger platinum case ( 41 mm ) but also slightly thinner ( 9, 5 mm ).
I must say that Lange did a nice job on the case, with some elegant proportions. Good point.
As for the dial, which is the specificity of this version, did you know that the moon phase disc was made of glass, and showed 1164 ( ! ) stars and the moon?
Compared to the Grande Lange One Lumen, this version adds a luminous moon phase and stars. To be clear, the hours, power reserve, grande date and hands are luminous, as well.
A quite spectacular outcome in the dark:
The movement is the Cal 095.4 which is a variation of the 095.2 of the previous Lumen, naturally, with a moon phase which is accurate to one day each 122, 6 years, for those who will be able to live till this moment.
It is always a pleasure to see such a nicely decorated movement.
Another difference from the previous Lumen is that this one is limited to 200 pieces ( * ), probably because the 2013 edition was too quickly sold out.
Count a ticket of 68000 euros to get one...
Best,
Nicolas.
* PS: Correction: 200 pieces for the Grande Lange One Lumen, same for the Grande Lange One Lumen Moon Phase.
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
I love how lange does not just issue a standard GL1 moon in lumen, but had this laser engraved with 1164 stars as compared to 382 on the regular GL1 moon. Also, I believe the last photo you've shown is the movement of the Richard Lange jumping seconds, the GL1 moon lumen retails for 69,600 euros if I am not mistaken. And the previous GL1 lumen was limited to 200 pieces, only the zeitwerk phantom was limited to 100! Cheers, Masy
Shows the watch to good effect. As for the movement you showed; it has the "islands" of the original Lange 1. So, the new movement has not been used for these new L1s?
It's a mess when I uploaded more than 400 pictures.... To be confirmed... Best, my friend. Nicolas
The Zeitwerk Luminous Moonphase proposed by me some years ago... Ciao, Elio
By judging from your pictures with full light this piece is not really pretty. During twilight or in the dark it will look most likely very, very good. A strange creation this Lumen family ... Best Moritz
Yes, the DatoPerpTourby is cool, but totally inaccessible to me. This L1 Lumen is beautiful with an interesting, unique look I prefer the older L1 moonphase to the new L1 moonphase, but in the L1 Lumen, the moon in the hours/minutes dial seems to work very well Cheers, and thank you for the good report Hope you're having a blast in SIHH. John
